Yes, we realised the minute we got there, saw the size of the place and the coaches lining up disgorging people to book in just behind us. Next time we'll definitely look for somewhere smaller even if it means paying a bit more. A lot of the package we'd actually paid for but in fact we didn't use. A hotel that size should have had more lifts. One of them only went as far as the 2nd floor and staircase after that, the other one which went to the 4th floor was out of action the whole time we were there. Several of the people were on wheeled walkers and I don't know how they would cope with the stairs - no alternative though!
I've looked at a few others since we got back, and would discount any of them that mention the word 'bingo'!Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

A very helpful 'one to avoid' recommendation, mc, as next year there is a plan to get my mother and my aunt in the same place, and an overnight in Coventry is probably the place to aim for doing that! :rotfl:
It can be tricky, want somewhere quiet because they're both very deaf and can't cope with a lot of noise, but equally they both need excellent disabled access as neither 'do' stairs.
A year or so back Mum and I stayed at a Village Hotel which was OK, and we're just back from a Hilton stay which was OK but our floor / wing had no lifts, so we'd need to make sure we asked about that (whereas I'd naively assumed that ALL floors would have lifts!) OK it was only one flight, but it went to a load of Family rooms - surely you'd expect a lift for buggies etc?

Looks like I am the first to wish you all a belated Happy New Year. Not planning on any trips at the moment. Far too cold. Battening down the hatches today as they are promising another load of snow by this evening. Fridge and Freezer are stocked so - "Let is snow, let it snow - tra la la"member # 12 of Skaters Club

Yes MW, the thread has been quiet, maybe something to do with DS travelling:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Happy New Year everyone.
Travelling commences next Friday with a trip down to London and a trip to We Will Rock You, while seeing DS & GF on our way to Dover to find a some warmer weather, for a couple of months. Also caravan rallies booked including a trip to France in the summer, and various trips around the UK.
Deep snow for Donny at the moment (half a inch is our usual max), I tried to go to a hospital appointment but after skidding twice in a 4WD, on a ungritted main A road, (ice under the snow) turned around and gave up. As the consultant would have been coming from the Sheffield direction and that always gets 3 times more than we do, decided it was probably pointless anyway. Re-booked now for our return as it was non-urgent, then the dentist called who was within walking distance to cancel our appointment for this afternoon, re-scheduled for next week.
Keeping busy scanning and sorting paperwork :eek::A. Want to use up from fridge and freezer anyway, hope to only buy fresh veg between now and leaving. Xmas decs are all down and away, DH busy feeding the birds and watching their antics, putting food under the outdoor table as it the only clear place.
Euro seems to have stablised around the 1.11 mark, was hoping for higher.
Take care - DGMember #8 of the SKI-ers Club

Thought I'd do a post as this is the ski-ing and skate-ing thread. This week I've had the opportunity to both ski and skate every time I stepped outside the door ! So decided to have a lock in with telly, chocs and books

Well, I re-started my New Year fitness programme again on Monday this week - aqua-aerobics, then adult beginners' swimming on Tuesday. I haven't been anywhere since then because the snow came down and I am so, so thankful not to have to defrost the car and get to work while it's still dark. I can just sit here and look at it.
We had a small flock of redwings arrived in the back garden yesterday (winter visitors from Scandinavia) stripped the pyracantha bush in a fairly short time and left the local blackbirds wondering what had happened!!Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

Doing an extended ski! Our flight home from Florida was cancelled due to weather at Gatwick, so stuck in Florida.
Don't envy us - it's blooming cold! And I want at be at home now. I was astonished, though that the first flight out we could rebook on is for NEXT Wednesday.
Be careful, y'all! (especially Errata)
