SKI-er or Sk-ater. We know how to enjoy ourselves

Sounds like you are really enjoying being back in the UK 7DW.. but how nice to know your 'bolt hole' of quiet, peace and sun is waiting for you when you want it... half and half for next year sounds like a plan.. pity you aren't nearer to London we could've met up for tea and a natter... enjoy your time and keep walking.. I guess its just too easy to become a sitter rather than a doer when its hot hot hot.. thats how I'd feel in the heat I am sure...#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

Thanks tanith for your kind words.
It's not just the heat in Spain, it's also tthat without driving for miles there literally is nothing to do (or at least nothing I particularly want to do). We don't even have a garden and keeping a few flowerpots weeded and watered doesn't take much time. I don't really like walking in the mountains (I'm with the Spanish here who all take their 'paseo' on the road and wouldn't dream of going off it) and short of walking or mountain biking all there is to do is go in a bar. I do love LOOKING at the mountains and driving round the m to see more quaint villages but you can't do that every day.
I came back from our city centre the other day (walked - didn't have to drive for miles to get there) and my husband and son boath roared with laughter when I said I'd had a lovely time walking round, looking in the church and art gallery and opening a new Bank AccountDoesn't take much to please me but they are not things I can do in my little white pueblo.
I've realised completely this year that I love different things about living in each country so it has to be half and half for me from now on I think!(AKA HRH_MUngo)

I'm with you 7DW, though my plce in Spain is not isolated and surrounded by Brits, shops that sell nearly everything you can get at home (at a price of course), but I do like different things about both, and also going away in the 'van. Just cannot get my head around that when I am here I seem to be running round in ever decreasing circles, I wonder if I just have not had enough time to do the things which need to be done, or it is just the pace of life here. Never mind it will all have to wait a month or so again.
Glad you are enjoying being back, its weird though I miss both places when in the other.
Tanith - well done on the weight loss, I must get back to it, it has gone on the back shelf since I got back, but will try again, in France with Wine and Cheese to die for!!!!!!!!!!!! :rotfl::j:eek::rotfl:

Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?0 -
I'd feel the same as both of you I think, I'd love the heat and stunning views but I know I get bored with nothing to do and you can only read so many books...
Thanks donny-gal I had a GP check up in Feb and my blood sugar was borderline diabetic. The nurse told me she would take it again in 3mths and if it had gone up even one point she would be telling me I was diabetic , she said if I could lose a little weight it might make the difference so I was very determined and surprisingly found it much easier than I thought. I had the blood tests done again 2wks ago having lost a stone and the blood sugar came down just one point so she said we'll do it again in 6mths but the good thing was my cholesterol came down from 6.1 to 5 which I was so pleased about .. now I am determined to lose another stone as I am sure its also good for my Osteo-Arthritic joints... Good luck losing weight with all that wonderful food around you...:rotfl:#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

Hi Tanith, I don't think we have chatted before. I too need to lose some weight. I have been diabetic for 13 years and currently weigh 12 stone something. If I have learnt anything in the years it is that weight is at the heart of the high blood sugar and high cholesterol. When my husband died I lost over a stone and all my high readinga nose dived to an acceptable level. The wieght has crept back on and the readings are on the up. Managed to get my Cholesterol level back to 5 just recently. I have a treadmill which I try and use regularly as of course exercise if also a key ingredient of weight loss.
We could be twins - I too have Osteo-Arthritic joints in hand, back and feet. Loosing weight will ease the joints no end, especially the knees. Swimming is the best form of exercise according to my doctor. Good luck - lets compare progress. I will start after I have had lunch with Donny-gal on Monday!!member # 12 of Skaters Club

Forgot to say, we have both SKI'd while we are in England - my husband has taken out a three-month membership to a gym and we have both treated ourselves to a satnav so that we can find our way around European cities (having yet again got lost in Madrid earlier this month)
We are off to Pembrokeshire on our house exchange for three weeks on Tuesday, so will be SKI-ing some more I am sure!!
Off-topic but moneysaving , I got SIX low energy bulbs from Morrisons today for 29p ! They were in a pack of two for 29p and they were buy one get two free. Terrific Bargain!(AKA HRH_MUngo)

OK, I'm stumped as to what the guidelines are for membership of the SKI-ers Club.
Should the reply start with "If you need to ask....." then I accept, and apply for provisional membership.
By the way, are there any women here ?0 -
SKIer = Spending/Squandering Kids' Inheritance
SKATER = Spending Kash And Totally Enjoying Results - for those who don't have children.
And it's about spending money in your senior years on things you want instead of hoarding it all away for someone's inheritance - although inheritances are allowed! We just enjoy ourselves and spend what's necessary.
Most of us are women I think! I am, for one.
If you feel you qualify andd want to join , just add it on your signature. I think the next number is 15.
Welcome to the board!(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Merrywidow I do already do the swimming thing as often as possible , I was so pleased when my Borough did the 'Free swimming' thingy at Easter for over 60's and kids but I have been so busy this last couple of months I haven't taken full advantage of it yet .. I better hurry up or it will be the Summer Holidays and too busy for me to bother... I had my first Hip-Replacement 5yrs ago because of the O/A and the second hip is on its way.. but its the damn wrist/thumb and knees that pain me most.. but I manage most things including walking so don't complain... as you see by my signature my weight loss has slowed to a stop now so I guess I need to step something up a gear:rotfl:I am having my 4yr Old grandaughter this morning from 8am she is planning on helping me with a few chores then we'll go whoop it up at the park... later on I volunteer at her school with a gardening project the kids are doing in their lunch break so a busy day for me....#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j
