More exciting skiing : we've booked to go to China next summer.
We went in 2000, but this trip goes to places we did not visit. I'd love to go to Beijing again, it'll have changed enormously , but that would be another £1000 for us both.Member #14 of SKI-ers club

China, wow, my husband would love that. Hope you have a great time.
It's not a place I've ever fancied myself. If we did long haul I would go to New York.
We've booked to go to Pembrokeshire next September.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

We are both SKIing and DFT atm - Doing Fun Things. That one was started by my siblings, one of my nephews (16) was seriously enthusiastic about the prospect of house clearance over half term, they cancelled their holiday in a remote cottage because Mum was ill, and then when she died they spent a few days on that project, but we insisted they should have a list of FTTD (Fun Things To Do) in the area as well.
Anyway, to escape the tedium of executorship, we spent last night 'over the water' and visited Taurus Crafts in Lyndney today, wonderful place, and we've ordered a name plaque for the house. Now we've come a bit further north, and tomorrow we're going to Tewkesbury for the day. Just planning a trip to the cinema, which is a bit more of an outing than it would be usually as we're in the middle of nowhere!
Actually, going to the cinema at home is going to require more SKIing than it used to: DS3 has given up working at the local cinema, sometimes we used to get in for free, sometimes we were charged as students, but now we have to pay more often than not.At least it's cheaper than the major cinema chains though ...

Well. After deciding not to downsize, we are, after all, thinking of moving. However, it will not be downsizing. Our house is lovely and we don't want to leave it, but my husband is really now getting stressed by the lack of parking and the amount of houses in our street going as buy-to-lets and rented to dodgy people with large white vans
. We still however, want the space and can't imagine ourselves in a pokey bungalow or a flat with nowhere to put anything.
So.....we decided we would be prepared to compromise on style of house to get another area. Not smaller, but a different style, which we would not normally go for.
We have seen a 1950s semi in a nice area and are going to view it this week. Normally we don't like this sort of house because they are characterless and the third bedroom and the kitchen are tiny, but this one is in an area we know well, with shops and a pub at one end of the road and another parade of shops a bit further away. The bus goes right down the road (an asset as far as we are concerned). It's on an estate but right on the edge of it so it does not seem like it is on an estate (don't like estates). It does appear to have a bit of character from what we have seen by doing a drive-past and has off-road parking and a garage. It has a lovely big conservatory (high on my husband's wish list). It's about two miles away from where we live now.
Here's the link (the EA assures me they do have pictures of the inside, they just forgot to put them on the listing!).

Looks good to me, though personally I am not keen on conservatories.
One serious omission for me is a downstairs loo, but useful to have utility facilities.
We have a ground floor extension (extra bedroom/study ) with shower room including loo, very useful.
I like being on a bus route and within walking distance of shops, bank, health centre, church, weekly market etc.
I hope you make the right decision for you, SDW.0 -
I would like a downstairs loo. There is usually somewhere you can squeeze one in.
We are also viewing this (over the border in the next county,), this is also near shops and on a bus route, also a small railway station:

and this (near shops and not quite such a good bus route). The kitchen would need extending but it is £10k cheaper than the others.

Wish us luck!(AKA HRH_MUngo)

I like the first one best. That's some conservatory! I resisted having one until ours was finished exactly a year ago. And it's been super. The thermal input in summer had kept our insulated house warm, something it hasn't been in summer since the deep felt was installed.
The second has little kerb appeal and the third just looks tired. All have good gardens.
Down to choice and price, SDW. Good luck.Member #14 of SKI-ers club

SDW, I'm worried about the summer house you just done built at the bottom of your garden: please tell me you are going to take that with youI try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0
