We are in the middle of renewing the roof on the hay store, and renovating the greenhouse. They are both DIY projects; time consuming, enjoyable, and reduce the amount to be passed on.
These come on top of a whole load of other outgoings with regards getting the place how we want it to be.
But are they really skiing items? I think we need grading of skiing items. Holidays, meals, clothes , jewelry, theatre, cinema etc., should be tier one skiing. Getting the castle as you want it should be another level.

I don't think so. We've spent quite a lot of money over the last few years on projects around home, projects to make our lives safer and more comfortable. Last year: building work in the back garden to replace a crumbling garden wall and to replace a concrete slope with steps. Next week we're having the pond re-done - the pond that was dug and lined a few years ago has turned into a mud puddle because liner is leaking. It's going to be replaced by a hard liner that won't leak and will withstand birds' beaks, little animals scrabbling etc, will be surrounded by paving so that we can sit there. 10 years ago we had the roof re-done. I wouldn't want to split it all down into 'this is SKI-ing, this isn't'.
This year I shall have spent quite a lot what with cosmetic surgery in February and the holiday in the Western Isles/Highlands in June, then the pond. A few thousand in all. I'm still saving, though, because other things may come along which we just can't budget for until they happen.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

We are off to the USA next week , to look after grandson 2 for a month as DIL has had to go back to work.
It's cost us £1700 all told, with car hire and having to get our visas for the Vietnam trip early.
Bit apprehensive, too. It was a bit if a strain last time.Member #14 of SKI-ers club

Is any of the stuff that was a bit of a strain fixable in some way? New ground rules maybe?.................

DIL did tell me that she had been jealous if her mum, looking after baby when she had to leave him. She clearly forgot about that with me.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
