Thanks to all for the kind words and wishes. I came home yesterday morning and now the recovery and resting process carries on at home in my own surroundings. Sister Kent, the cosmetic surgery specialist nurse, has just phoned to ask. I'm getting absolutely royal care at home from DH. We've had scrambled egg and smoked salmon for a late breakfast, that's what we normally have on Christmas morning. It was great to be able to have a proper shower at home. We had a bit of a struggle doing up the bra again - it has hooks-and-eyes and then a zip up the front. Today was the first time I was able to get a look in the mirror. I did want tiny little boobs and they certainly are!! I managed OK sleeping on my back propped up on pillows and DH beside me holding my hand. Everything is fine and I have absolutely no regrets about doing it, and spending all that money.

There was a man in the same hospital who was in there for a bit longer following some kind of orthopaedic surgery - he lives alone. Just as I was on my way out he told me his wife is an Alzheimer's victim and she's in a nursing-home. OMG. Poor man. No wonder he wasn't there all Saturday afternoon - must have gone to see her. DH and I are so lucky to have each other. I wouldn't have been able to do all this without him. I went to sleep last night holding his hand.

We just spent a good lump on having our bath taken out, and a long shower tray put in with glass panels so now have a lovely walk in shower. So much easier than climbing into the bath for a shower.. my SIL spent ages tracking down the tiles we used when we had the bathroom done about 7yrs ago , so he could retile where the bath came out, it look fab you'd never know it hadn't always been like that..

Yes, we did all that some years ago - climbing in and out of the bath was a no-no for both of us because of my hips and his knees. Then in the autumn of 2008 when he was so ill, one of the knees blew up an infection and went to septicaemia, | had a better shower enclosure put in, a bit wider with lower step-in and that's what we have now. Money well-spent.

Well, we've been SKI-ing on a budget - buying things for our house from charity shops and e-Bay. We have bought three brass table lamps for £40 (most expensive £25, cheapest 99p from eBay), a distressed shabby-chic retro plant stand (£25 from eBay, a beautiful piece of furniture), two beautiful oval antique bevelled mirrors (one in an oak frame, £4.50 from eBay, one in a mahogany frame £6.50 from a charity shop), and the bargain of the century were the curtains (£4 from a charity shop). They are fully lined and my husband liked the pattern so he bought them. They turned out to be William Morris 'Fruit', made by Sanderson, and just what we wanted for our Victorian sitting room. Have just bought some cushion covers to match (£4 off eBay).

Not to forget my little notebook computer for £101 from eBay. :)

So, lots of nice things for not a lot of money! That's SKI-ing the MSE way!

We've just come back from Mallorca , a trip to celebrate OHs 70th!

It was dreadful! Cold and the hotel was tired to say the least.

Perhaps it was our fault for choosing 3 star, but we have stayed in good ones. As you know, we our ski priority is to have enough to see the gorgeous boy, who is now 16 months, in the USA.

We have also booked a tour of Vietnam for the Autumn. Most extravagant ever!

Can't seem to find anything I want to ski /spend money on at the mo.

Looked after grandchildren recently but NT and EH membership and their annual passes to local attraction took care of expenses. Also local authority museums still free despite council cutbacks.
Booked one week's holiday in July and considering a short break in May, now that the weather is picking up.

You'll find stuff to spend your money on now the weather's changing (I hope). I spent (apt) yesterday with my daughter and granddaughters aged 11 and 17 - in Westfield! FIVE HOURS!!

I'd forgotten the hell it is of shopping with teenagers. H&M; Hollisters; Boots; M&S; Claires Accessories; TopShop; Dune; Lush. Their mother and I managed to buy 1 lipstick and 2 pillows between us. Talk about spending the kid's inheritance - seems more like the grandkids.

I spent quite a lot back in February and now I've well recovered from surgery. Now, summer holiday coming up. Although: summer may not be quite the right word! We've talked for a number of years now about getting up to the Western Isles and Highlands of Scotland, and Monday morning we set off. Mainly, we want to see scenery and wildlife. Staying in a few different places, we'll be away approx 14 days. Hopefully, we'll get our own car back. At the mo it's in the repair shop being put back to rights after a rear-end shunt at traffic lights recently. The driver behind wasn't paying attention and he offered to pay cash rather than involve his insurance company - well, it turns out to be not a cheap job. Our insurers have provided us with a 'courtesy car' but we prefer our own car to go a long distance in.

Added to that, tomorrow we have a man coming round from a local pond firm. We think the pond needs re-doing because the liner has been damaged by birds and animals scrabbling in it, and it leaks. It may need a rigid liner. So that may be something else towards the end of summer when the tadpoles have become frogs and have left the pond. This year looks like being quite costly, but it's things we want, things that give us pleasure, and life is just too darned short.

We are also off on holiday tomorrow, but we are going to France for a couple of weeks where we are renting a property in the Loire. We are also having a couple of nights at a French chateau that we have been to before, where the food is good. We go via the Eurotunnel, which makes for a very easy crossing.

Sorry to hear about the car Margaretclare.

Have a lovely time, Iris! We were in France twice last year. In September, having read the novel 'Birdsong', we stayed at the Novotel, Amiens. Before that, at a former monks' watermill now a B&B, predictably called the Moulin des Moines.

Just as well DH didn't go along with the other driver's offer to pay cash. We shouldn't have got a courtesy car, the repair might not have been guaranteed and it would have ended up a costing a lot more than anticipated. The young guy was worried about his insurance premiums going sky-high following what he saw as a 'minor shunt'. Cars nowadays are designed to 'crumple' to save injury to the driver, and with DH's spinal history, it was just as well that it did crumple.

I've just posted off some work I've done for my Old English course. I can read it quite well now, writing it is another matter. Just trying to tie up a few loose ends before we go off early Monday morning. Monday overnight at Gretna then to Ullapool.
