Well, I've splashed out a fair bit of money on myself just this week. Paid the Spire private hospital for reduction mammoplasty which is scheduled for Saturday. It may possibly be delayed, however, because of a nasty catarrhal cold which is in my upper respiratory passages. The anaesthetist may think it too risky to go ahead until this is all cleared. I went for pre-surgery appointment yesterday and had bloods taken for a whole raft of tests as well as swabs for MRSA. I'm to have an injection to prevent DVT the night before surgery. Was impressed - they really have all the bases covered. Importantly, my specialist nurse thinks that 77 is not old - oh, I love her for that!
Just splashed out £300 for a new laptop for my eldest GD. As she's going self-employed as a partner in a painting and decorating firm, she needs it for her accounts. So that doesn't really count as SKI-ing, but what is classified as cosmetic surgery and costs £5265 all-inclusive, 2-night hospital stay and everything, definitely does.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

Good luck with that, MC.
We've splashed out on a holiday in the Cotswolds in September. We have booked a cottage for ourselves, my American cousin and her husband and my Norfolk cousin and her husband. The cottage has cost a fortune (by our standards anyway!), but between three couples is OK. We've only had to pay a £25 deposit, nearer the time when we have to pay the balance we will arrange for the other parties to put their share our bank account and then pay with our credit card.
We are also SKI-ing to Margate in June with friends but this is FREE as the friends' daughter has a seafront apartment there. :T
And tomorrow we are visiting young friends in Oxford for the weekend and meeting their second daughter for the first time. Looking forward to it .(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Good luck, MC.
The thread is quiet lately, are we all hibernating?
We are waiting for DS to tell us when we can go to the USA. No point in going if he is away doing inspections. I am suffering withdrawal symptoms from the gorgeous boy, though. Baby, not DS.
Trying to persuade OH to book a tour of Vietnam. Everyone who had been says its great.Member #14 of SKI-ers club

In the last month we have gone in for downhill SKIing I think.
Booked a fortnight all inclusive to Crete in May costing £1180.
Celebrating our retirement in September with 18 days in Canada/Alaska; Rockie Mountaineer (Gold of course) various sightseeing trips and also 7 day cruise to Alaska , setting us back £9k plus spending money!
Not MSE at all, but really a once in a lifetime trip! :j :j0 -

Yay! Did something today we've been threatening to do since we returned to the UK permanently last year, and ordered a multi-fuel stove for the dining room. We'd already had a survey and inspection of the chimney so knew that it did not need lining. It's coming on Monday.
The way our house is laid out it should heat the back of the house and upstairs if we leave the doors open.
This is it! Our fireplace even looks like the one in the picture

Sounds like a great idea, especially with current weather conditions!0

Just had a mini ski to Manchester .
Booked to see The Accrington Pals, with voucher from DD, so decided to stay overnight in Premier Inn.
The play was excellent! Thoroughly recommended.
Lovely meals in Carluccio's on 2 for 1 offer.Member #14 of SKI-ers club

I notice it is a 5kW (ie equivalent to an old fashioned 5 bar electric fire - only more than a three bar fire would have blown the fuse).
Is that small enough for you not to require a nasty big air inlet to be installed?
The trend is towards forcing house owners to install such stoves that are "room sealed" with their own air inlet pipe from outdoors.0
