Any ideas for our next trip? We like cities, but it does not have to be confined to cities. She comes from Leeds way and usually drives, I live in the West Midlands, can drive, but prefer the train. Somewhere for a day out not too far for either of us would be lovely. Peak District is already on the list :)

Come to Liverpool! Tate Liverpool, Ferry across the Mersey, Walker Art Gallery, wonderful eateries (can recommend some if you decide to come), great shopping at L1 and Bold Street, friendly people. And over the water on the Wirral is Lady Lever Art Gallery. And if you get yourselves out to Mossley Hill you can visit Sudley House, which is just a few hundred yards from us so you can call and have a cuppa! :) Oh and there's the Gormley sculptures out at Waterloo too.

Easy trip on the train from Birmingham, and nearer to Leeds than Chester.

You might want to do an overnight stay though, as there's so much to see in our lovely city!

Edit: PS it's the second safest city in UK too! (Newcastle beat us to it!)
  • Liverpool is on the list, thanks :)

We had a few days in Liverpool last month. Absolutely brilliant place - but wrap up warm if you're going anywhere near the water. The wind certainly whistled round the Albert Dock area.

Ski-ing in Florida with DS again. Thank god for the gorgeous boy, as the weather is not good - what happened to The Sunshine State.

Out for a walk in jeans, long-sleeved T-shirt and jacket. Sun out now, but not warm. :(

The baby makes up for it , though. :D

We're going to be away over New Year, a 'short break' in Pembrokeshire.

  • Well, I hope SKI-ing includes what I'm going to be spending money on in January - cosmetic surgery. Reduction mammoplasty to be exact. Surgery at our local private hospital on 19th January. Hope to go from size 36GG to 36A/B, or that was what was discussed yesterday with the consultant surgeon and cosmetic surgery nurse. 'What are you saving for' - well, this is one thing I've had in mind for a long time. Money from savings/investments, will be money well spent to get rid of this constant discomfort, backache, neck-ache, rashes and soreness, as well as being able to wear clothes that fit me across the shoulders but which also do up at the front.

I never even thought of asking the NHS to do it. Having decided on it, I didn't want to wait, and I didn't think they would even consider it. I could just imagine what they'd say. I'm just looking forward to it now. I have to try and lose some more weight before the date, so am watching what I eat like a hawk. We've now got almost all the food in that we need over Christmas. DH went to Tesco late in the evening and got a lot of stuff including our smoked salmon so that we can have smoked salmon with scrambled egg for Christmas breakfast. We're away over New Year and then our wedding anniversary on the 14th January, but I watch what I eat. Last Saturday we were out to lunch with friends, I thought it would be Christmas food but it wasn't. I had sirloin steak with salad and that filled me up and kept me going for ages.

    Happy Christmas to everybody!

  • Margaretclare, my mother did exactly the same and her aches and pains went away. She had been far too big for her bone size and her body was getting more frail but the bosoms had remained large. One of the best things she ever did

Kittie, may I ask you - at what age did your mother do this? I am 77.

It's not widely realised but this is not necessarily a matter of vanity. Because of the extra weight in front you do get upper backache, neck-ache, soreness, grooves in shoulders, you name it. How is that 'vanity' or 'cosmetic'?

I must admit, 99.9% of the people who know about this have been encouraging, positive, helpful. The tiny minority who haven't - well, they don't understand, is all I can say. Like the blokes who 'like a good handful, something to get hold of, like a woman to look womanly..' well, you just try and live with it, that's all. As a bloke of course they don't have to, but some just feel they have the right to make these stupid comments anyway.
