    Yep!

We've booked flights to Florida for January - good offers on car hire and airport parking, too. So that is credit card tied up .

Good MSE day today, though - Orange wednesday cinema, pre 5pm, so Senior rate. Lunch at Bella Italia - voucher printed from site.

Waiting for The Jury now = lazy day.

    Hi Polly

I'm back in circulation. My mother died a month ago and I have been mired in paperwork and everything surrounding the end of one's life. Mum was in her 100th year. Looks like this site needs a burst of oxygen.

    Congrats on your grandmothership, enjoy.

    Off to bed, sleep tight

Welcome back Merrywidow! Thinking of you at this sad time. Your mum had a good long life.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

Hi Merrywidow, sorry to hear of your loss. Hopefully you can look forward to destressing on your cruise.

We had a super time, though we had the advantage of having been on a very similar cruise 12 months before. Do your homework on where you are visiting, using cruisecritic etc for advice. Often, nearly always, the organised excursions are far more expensive than going off the ship and negotiating a price with local taxi drivers for a similar trip.

For our evening meals we were at a table of 6 (8 previous year) and were lucky to be sat with two other lovely couples. Mealtimes were great for sharing experiences of other cruises and just general chit-chat.

Where are you cruising to and with which company? We were with P & O and we were very well pleased with the whole experience. If you have any specific questions feel free to ask here or PM me. Last here was our first cruise and we have certainly caught the bug.

Just one cautionary note: I think I heard of someone who'd done just that, BUT was late returning to the ship at the end of her private excursion. Ship didn't wait, and she was then stuck, needed to arrange flights etc which may not have been covered by insurance etc etc etc.

I'm sure it doesn't happen very often, but if you're the least bit disorganised or prone to running late, or if you're in a country which is prone to running late, you might want to take that into account ...

Very good point Savvy-Sue; planning is essential, but port stops are usually 8am to 5pm approx, which SHOULD give ample time to explore.

Hello. MW! Good to hear from you and condolences for the loss of your mother. Almost 100, eh?

Skype is a god-send to us with our baby boy - he has just started to respond to us on the computer, smiling and laughing.

We're off again at end of month, looking after him for two months delaying him going to a childminder. Bit nervous about staying so long, but dying to see them again.

I am on the ROTTERDAM from the Holland/America Line on November 3rd. Its a 32 day cruise Southampton to Southhampton via the Carribean, but including Aruba, Curacao and Bonair. My late Husband was Dutch and we always talked about visiting the Netherlands Antillan.

On the Rotterdam they are the first ship to go with a new concept, a Lanai stateroom. The cabin has glass sliding doors to a promonade deck where a table and chairs are set out for each passenger. Great way of meeting people I guess.

Was quite pleased with this as a solo traveller can usually be charged the same as a couple, and got a good discount to try out the Lanai staterooms.

Looking forward to dressing up for a change in the evenings. There are two formal evenings per week. I have not fixed my seating yet in the Dining Room. You were lucky with your fellow diners but I was terrifed of being landed with people I didnt like. I will decide when I get on board.

    More tips will be handy.

    Thanks MW:cool::T
