Free £25 Grand National bet

Quick answer: NO0

I am understanding, thanks people.
If I wanted to have a sure fire "win", can I BACK and LAY against the same horse. There will be a slight loss on the different prices, but not more than 2-3% as far as I can see. I should then either win ODDS + stake for BACK or ODDS + Stake for LAY.
Any reason why not?
Unexciting but the result is I am £30 QUidco + £25 stake returned + some guaranteed "winnings".
Are my maths up to this game?
If you back and lay the same horse at betfair the back and lay cancel each other out (apart from a slight loss due to the difference in odds). Betfair would not regard this as placing a £25 bet.0 -
Seriously dont try anything complicated - its too easy to get yourself in an expensive mess.
Take the nice profit from Quidco and hope for the best with your free bet - if your horse loses then withdraw and move on.
If you really want to find out more read about matched betting - but have a good read because its complicated and needs some thought. The early bird gets the worm but the second mouse gets the cheese :cool:0 -
HELPFUL TIP
For all those unfamiliar with laying /advanced betting etc and accidently selecting lay rather then bet, do the following.
With the grand national event selected you will see all the horses listed in the middle window, with various numbers, icons everywhere. On this window will be a tick box that reads 'Back and Lay' and 'Market Depth'.
UNTICK BOTH OF THESE!
You will now see only one column in blue, which are your odds. Simple! So cloudy lane for example currently has odds of 6.8. So if you bet £10 and it wins, you will get £68 back, which is £58 pounds profit and your original £10 stake.
Hope this helps!0 -

I find this thread somewhat alarming because of the very obvious lack of knowledge and understanding of betting in general and Betfair in particular which is evident in many of the posts. I have no wish to be a killjoy - if you want to bet on the Grand National then good luck and have fun. Making use of a free bet offer to do it is a good idea providing you are aware of the possible dangers, of which there are several.
1. Most signups to betting sites go without hitch, but as people have discovered, sometimes there are issues with age verification which require you to provide ID. The bookmakers have to cover their backs against allowing under age people to bet, so you should be prepared and willing to provide the information they request. If you are uncomfortable with giving out details which may include a copy of your card and your passport, you would be better to give this a miss.
2. Betfair offer several deposit methods, one of which is credit card. As people have discovered, some of these methods charge a fee. Also MOST CREDIT CARDS TREAT GAMBLING TRANSACTIONS AS CASH TRANSACTIONS. This can be very expensive especially if you are using the card for a 0% offer. NEVER DEPOSIT INTO ANY BETTING SITE WITH A CREDIT CARD UNLESS YOU CAN PAY OFF THE BALANCE IMMEDIATELY. DO NOT WAIT FOR YOUR STATEMENT. Interest is charged on the gambling transaction at an extortionate rate from the day it was used - there is no grace period as there is for purchases. Also it is likely that the gambling transaction will be the last item to be paid off, so if you only repay the minimum it will carry on costing you the high interest until you completely clear the card. In addition there may be a cash advance fee depending on the card provider. In short, if you can possibly help it, DON'T use a credit card. Debit cards are fine.
3. I have never personally had problems with Quidco not tracking, but some people have. Quidco cashback should be treated as a welcome extra, but not an inevitable consequence of doing this. It is likely to track, but far from certain. This applies to other cashback sites too.
4. If you enter the signup code correctly and place the required bet correctly then Betfair should produce the free bet. There are plenty of ways in which you might inadvertently not complete the procedure and free bets can be lost this way. Often bookmakers will give customers the benefit of the doubt if the free bet does not appear and you contact them, but if there has been a huge run on a particular offer they can become less than happy to do this, and may even pull the offer completely. While things will go smoothly for the majority of people, there is a possibility that some people may lose their money. For this reason my advice would be to only do this offer if you were going to bet £25 on the Grand National anyway.
There has been a lot of confusion regarding the suspended market this morning. if you bet before the suspension and your horse runs you are fine, if it doesn't run you have lost your money already, but should get the free bet. The race can now be found by clicking on the sports tab and the big orange link. If you have had Betfair open since this morning you may need to refresh the browser window for it to appear. This market and the place market will remain open until the race starts, although it may be briefly suspended if there is a non runner. Any bets placed on this new market will be refunded if your horse does not run.0 -
Ive signed up to Betfair and replaced the code that was already on the registration page when i went through Quidco with the code that Martin supplied on page 1. Have I done the right thing or have I just lost the Quidco cashback????
Cheers0 -

yes looks good to me exactly the way i did it,
Made 5 bets of £5 each and within 30 min the quidco had tracked.
Woke up this morning and the £25 has been credited back to the account and withdrawn back to my bank all bets still showing ready to go
Excellent stuff thankyou MSE0 -
I have done this and placed 5 x £5 bets on the five favorties to win. Quidco tracked last night and woke up this morning to my free£25 in betfair and have now withdrawn this back to my card.
So i have £30 through Quidco come summertime when it will be paid out. Plus i also have 5 chances of a winner in the National tomorrow.
