hello, id reccommend trying to make by hand/fod proccesser before buying a bread maker, personnaly i find it easier, and the taste/texture is far nicer. i previously had a bread maker and tried it loads over a couple of years but always went back to shop bought bread. since making by hand i have`nt looked back, and i make quite a bit for my family of 5 soon to be 6. it works out to be about 20p a loaf. i basically put 1lb of strong bread flour into my food proccesser bowl with a tsp of salt. then i rub in 15g of butter buy hand. i put 1/2 pint of warm water in a jug with a tsp of suger and 2 tsps of dry yeast, give it a stir and leave for 5/10 mins. add to bowl and whizz in food processer (with dough needles) for a few mins til mixed up to a ball. tip out onto a floured surface and need for a couple of mins then put in a greased bowl , put a piece of greased, grease proof paper over to. leave to rise. you can put some where warm to rise a bit quicker, or leave on kitchen side for 1hr. need again on floured surface and cut into 2 ,shape and put into 2, 1lb loaf tins or make into rolls, (grease and flour tins first) put grease proof paper on again and leave again til double in size. bake for about 25mins at 180. done. it really is easy and sooooooo nice. i generally make 4 every couple of days freezes lovely, or make a load over the wkend. i double the quantities. anyway just an idea. i found with breadmaker you always have a hole in bottom from hook, and it is very light more cake texture than bread. hope this helps.xOne day I will live in a cabin in the woods0

For me and my family we love our Panasonic Breadmaker, it's fantastic we use it everyday to make Bread, pita bread, ice buns. We woul'nt be without it, oh said the other day if it broke we would buy another one, we have had it just over a year now and it's paid for it's self.

I've just bought a new Panasonic breadmaker as a replacement for my old one which has broken after 7 years of daily use. I can thoroughly recommend them. I bought a SD254 from Amazon for £79.99 and as I make a loaf a day at 20p so the saving speaks for itself.Just when I'm about to make ends meet, somebody moves the ends0

i may try doing i by hand first then, which dry yeast do you use?0 -
at the mo im using hovis dry yeast, it was about 69p for a box with 6 or 8 sactets in, to make the recipe i gave you earlier you only need 2 tea spoons so cut open a sactet and pour onto tsp. you can get cheaper makes which i have`nt tried yet. you can also use fresh yeast which you can get free from asda and tesco just ask at fresh bread counter. you make slightly different and add a different quantity so just pm me if you want that. i always use to use fresh yeast it was great but as my scales dont go as low a 15g i was having trouble measuring right quantity and my bread came out very yeasty oneday which put me off, anyway let me know if you need more advice good luck. One day I will live in a cabin in the woods0

I love to make bread by hand when I have time, but love my Panasonic for sandwich and toast bread

I've not visited this board before - hi all
We've been thinking of getting a breadmaker for a little while - having read through the posts the Panansonic seems to come very highly recommended by many of you, but the price tag reflects that of course.
We have nearly enough nectar points to get a Morphy Richards Compact Breadmaker - 48245. Does anyone have one of these, and if so what are they like? As we feed five adults during the vacations I wonder if we need one that does bigger loaves (ie the Panasonic of course) as I think baking more than a loaf a day would become a pain. I understand that bread made in a breadmaker is a different shape to shop-bought bread, with less slices to a loaf - is that right?
Thanks in advance
