How long does the quick bake option take with the Panny SD255 ?
I've read on one review that it takes 1 hour, and another states it takes about 2 hours.
Thankssomething missing0 -
According to my instruction manual Bake Rapid is 1 hr 55 - 2 hours and Bake only is 30 minutes to 1 hr 30 (Piglet

Thanks Piglet!
I wonder why 'Bake only' is quicker than 'Bake Rapid'? Is there any difference in preparation for either mode?something missing0 -
Hi Zero, I think bake only has no mixing or rising time, so if you've made up a mix in a bowl and just put it in the machine to bake. The Panisonic has a few recipes for what I'd call "cake bread" that you make on the hob, pour into the tin and then bake.
I'm really pleased with my Panisonic so far...only a few days in though!Piglet

There is an interesting article comparing various breadmaker models here:

Makes interesting reading for those trying to decide which model.

Thanks, I've just read the article and am proud to say that my BM cost me £7 - brand new - from a charity shop! It is a Team International Rapido but is very similar to the Russell Hobbs model featured in the article so might even be made by them. I don't often bake a whole loaf in the machine - I prefer to use it to make the dough and do the baking in a conventional oven. I have got my costs down to around 16p per loaf using two-thirds strong white bread flour and one third wholemeal (all organic), using a recipe for soft rolls found on MSE (of course!) which makes two loaves - each around two thirds the size of a normal loaf - at a time. I haven't bought ready-made bread in the whole year since I purchased it and don't think I ever will!KNIT YOUR SQUARE TOTALS:

Interesting article! I'll link this to our older thread about choosing a breadmaker.

So, has anybody tried the Prima ABM 31 which this article rates better than the Panasonic SD-255?
And while I'm here... if anybody reading this has the old-style Cookworks breadmaker (the sort of squarish one with a grey and yellow control panel - I suspect about 5 years old) and still has the instruction manual, could they PM me? I was given one a couple of years ago by another OSer when she upgraded hers, but the manual got lost when I moved house. I've now bought a Panny and want to Freecycle the old one, but it would be nice to include the instructions...Operation Get in Shape

I have a Panasonic SD525 which I have used daily for years. I bought it on Amazon when subsequent model came out - everyone I know who actually uses their BM has a Panasonic and I would definitely recommend it (I don't work for them!!)Just when I'm about to make ends meet, somebody moves the ends0
