Imteresting, what problem do you have? Does it not release or do the ingredients stick in the top?
  • Has anyone tried the new (?) Kenwood BM450?http://www.lakeland.co.uk/kenwood-bread-machine/F/keyword/breadmaker/product/13386

I'm a big fan of the Panasonic having bought the SD252 nearly 4 years ago after much research. It's still going strong (apart from the non stick going in the pan) but after buying an SD255 from Costco for a gift we decided to go back and get one for ourselves as an upgrade. They've stopped doing them though and now have the Kenwood BM450 instead. Noticed in Lakeland today that they have also stopped doing the Panasonic in favour of the Kenwood.

Both Amazon and Lakeland have lots of great reviews for the Kenwood, any ideas how it compares? I'm quite tempted.
  • whenever i bake in the panasonic the bread is a bit too crusty! i use bread mix and follow instructions directly. how can i get a soft crust like the supermarket farmhouse bread?

Not sure if mine is the same Panasonic but I use the 'light' crust setting, also find the crust is softer if I forget to take it out and leave it to completely cool in the tin (keeps the moisture trapped). Also have you tried the sandwich loaf recipe from the book?

Good to hear you are getting on better with it now - loved your pic of the first attempt :D
Yeah I think the Panasonic is still widely available - I was just wondering if the Kenwood 450 was now considered better, Costco has it for quite a bit less than elsewhere online.
  • i got my panny on freecycle, the previous owners used it 3 or 4 times max then they lost the paddle - i bought a paddle for a few quid of ebay and it was the best money i ever spent

im on my 3rd bm and the panny is far far superior to any of the others

  • brownbabygirl - some recipes add dried milk powder to soften the crust. However you may never get it as soft as commercial sliced bread as that's baked in a steam oven.

I had a Morphy Richards BM which was pretty good (and a Which? Best Buy) - although I did find that I had to reduce the liquid in the recipe by up to 10% to stop the loaf from sinking.

Then I read a thread on this forum a few years ago and decided to upgrade to a Panasonic SD253. There's really no comparison: the Panasonic is so much better. The only drawback is that it can't make a really small loaf as the MR could. It gives superb results with Lidl bread kits - couldn't be easier (and dead cheap!)
If we are supposed to be thin, why does chocolate exist?

    Hi all! :hello:

I've just found this thread and I have a few questions to ask, please.

Firstly, my mum gave me a Hinari breadmaker. I've only used it once and the paddle thing at the bottom ended up stuck in the loaf. I've since been told that adding a bit more water should solve the problem, so I'll give it a go, but other than that the loaf I made with it was very nice. The only problem is, it was tiny! And I really do mean very small indeed...

I see that many, many people recommend the Panasonic breadmakers but I was just wondering howw big the loaves that it produces are. I'm not very good at imagining weights and sizes, but in terms of shop-bought loaves I would say that the breadmakes I have makes loaves of a bit smaller than a Warburton's small Toastie, when we are used to buying loaves the size of a big Toastie. Is there any bread machine out there which can make loaves that size? Which would you recommend? And out of all the different type of Panasonics would you also recommend?

I must admit that I don't have the time to read the whole thread at the minute (I've read the first few pages), but I promise I will read it when I have the time and if I'm asking questions which have been answered elsewhere just tell me to get my lazy posterior to earlier in the thread and I will do it. ;)

Thanks for your help! x

I am considering buying a breadmaker soon, doing lots of research. Of course here is the best place for advice!
I've only ever borrowed my ex MIL's BM. I remember the paddle always used to get stuck in the BM, was that just me or is it a problem?
