Seems like I had a lucky escape! Going to stick with my own bank (Natwest) as it can all be done online. None of this forcing people to have appointments to try and upsell other products!0

Because I can't believe you sent them decent information :-/ otherwise they would give you a decent response...?
As my mother told me when I was young 'Ask a silly question, get a silly answer'
Just noticed this response from Lokolo ............ "Can't believe'' this of Barclays ........?
When I had problems with them 5 years ago, they never replied to letters, let alone emails ........... and even my solicitor who wrote to them on my behalf a few times could not believe the calibre of the response he finally received to the threat of legal action against them!
So looks to me as if this leopard ......... ''will never change it's spots''.
And now withnathanhill69 response yet again confirming problems with Barclays and reiterating the comments of Scoobycando ..................... looks as if the defenders of Barclays are running out of excuses to hide behind???
Just because you get to deal with one helpful person, does not mean the rest of the company will be as accommodating and as I found when last I dealt with them, nothing seems to have changed0 -
And how do I know you or them didn't send extremely rude letters to them?
Scooby asked a silly question of transferring money, when he/she said they could see their account online. Now everyone knows you can easily transfer money from accounts online with internet banking.
I am going on my experiences, not on yours. I don't know what your situation was so how can I judge? I am going by Scoobys, whose said he tried to open an ISA, very late, then emailed a number of times expecting a reponse which is entirely personal, which doesn't happen nowadays. People are expected to know how to use internet banking etc.
And the can't believe was mainly for scooby, not barclays, as I cannot believe that they responded saying 'You cannot do this via email' when he says he didn't ask them to do anything, a lot of their emails are pre written and the people behind the scenes just copy and paste depending on the situation.
And if Barclays were THAT bad, why do so many people bank with them?0 -

I been thinking same thing, Barclays branch always busy. well staffed, people come out smiling.
Barclays transferred my ISA out in less than 3 weeks.
If i couldnt get to a branch i would post a cheque and put my account number on the back, i wouldnt spend time phoning to move money, i would use online facility to transfer money.
If they mess up they pay 90.00 + compensation tax free, sounds good to me. :beer:0 -

In the same vain, HOW do we know you do not work for Barclays and feel aggrieved that someone is saying unpleasant, but true things about your company???
Also re-reading the post you mention, this scooby person opened their account post 14th of the month ............. not particularly LATE, ......... today or yesterday would be LATE! _______ And what may I ask was 'Silly' with regards to asking how to transfer money ............... whilst it is often easy to transfer money between your own current/savings accounts, it is often NOT easy to pay in to the likes of ISA, as they like to monitor quite closely how much is Paid in and taken out? .... As I found out with my old ISA with another bank?
Then in a similar vain you say you can not judge 'My Situation', but in all your replies to scooby, your judging his ................. it does not figureand to say it's a bit much to expect a reply this late ............... working on the date he gave of the 14th, that's 21 days (to today) for them to reply ............... plus he also mentions all the phone calls he tried to make, being kept on hold ............. this is something I can very much believe from my own experience!
As for "if Barclays were THAT bad, why do so many people bank with them?" .................. A GREAT many people DO NOT bank with them, but as in my case I had hoped they had improved with time ................. but seems they have not!
Just to clarify something, I have just spoken with one of my neighbours, who HAS (my sympathies!!!) opened one of these ISA's and he's just given me some of the paperwork to do with the account and with regard to PAYING-IN money they (Barclays) only allow the following methods .............:-
Standing Order (in writing only)
Cash Transfer (in writing only)
By Cheque (posted in or via branch)
Transfer from existing Barclays account by PHONE only .......... THEY do not allow Online Transfers, even from another Barclays account! YOU have to spake to one of their "Savings Serviceline Team".
So with the fact he/she could not get through on the phone OR get a response by email, I can fully understand their comments!
Take this which ever way you like, but it seem to me your a little blinkered with regards to this company? .................. Am I RIGHT ............ or AM I RIGHT!!!

"people come out smiling" .............. perhaps BECAUSE they are leaving ??? (just a thought;)).
And regarding "i wouldnt spend time phoning to move money,", surely with all our wonderful phones we have nowadays, PHONING should be one, if not the easiest ways of transferring money??? ................. that is, IF you can get someone to answer the phone?0 -
P.S.
Just to rub salt in to the BARCLAYS wound, my neighbour Mark (the one with the Barclays ISA ) concurs what has been written on here with regard to the lack of customer service .................. Mark claims it took them about a month and a half to fully get his ISA sorted and he's only keeping his money with them, until their INCENTIVE bonus expires, or if a NEW ISA comes out, with a higher rate.
He's NO LOYALTY to anyone, just money ............... and with all the banks he deals with, Barclays is pretty LOW on his list of QUALITY banks!
Just thought you might like to know? :rotfl:0 -

Not really, its a metter of opinion, which has clearly be said throughout.
And lets be honest here, 14th March not late? When can people start opening ISAs? Tell me again? Lets see about this 366 days in the year, he leaves 15 working days (21 - 6 weekend).....
Ok and thank you for clarifying something, standing order, IN WRITING, cash transfer, IN WRITING.
Forgive me if I am wrong, but I did suggest that Scooby write to them????? Obviously something slipped his mind when he couldn't be bothered to.
And when did I say I had spoken to a savings support person? I hadn't, I had just been into a branch, so a regular person, not a speciality person.
And well I currently have an ISA with Egg, which limits the amount you can put in ISA automatically, I would imagine a lot of banks also have something similar, to stop people going over the limit.
Can I ask which bank you had your ISA with last year?
And a lot of people don't bank with them, well duh, there are quite a lot of banks out there. But the fact is, they're still a high street bank that is obiovusly very popular as they still are, a high street bank! So not eveyrone has had problems, just you three on this, complaining and complaining.
If we were to weigh up everyone on MSE who have had problems with Barclays and all those who haven't I should imagine it would be quite even, mainly because there are a lot of complainers such as yourself, and others who have decided they would leave it until the last month to open an ISA.0 -

Just thought you might like to know? :rotfl:
And if you are loyal to banks you are a fool. Banks are only out to get your money, if you learn anything, it should be this.
A lot of people aim to use Barclays only on their +1% interest, as I quite happily will do to.0 -
I applied for Barclay's Tax Haven ISA by appointment with a 'Personal Banker', roughly 3 weeks ago at the local branch . All went pretty smoothly (I thought). I wrote a chque for £3000, signed the forms, provided the necessary identification, NI number etc etc.
One week later I receive a letter w/ my cheque attached stating that there's a problem with my application. So I went back to my local Barclays and after waiting roughly 20mins I was told by the Manager that there wasn't any problem with my application and she didn't know why they'd sent it back. She apologised and stated that they would send the application off again.
One week passes and I receive not one but two more letters from Barclays, one stating that they had received my application and I would be receiving a Welcome Pack shortly. The second letter again says there's a problem with application and attached is the cheque I made out three weeks ago.
So off I go again to the branch and wait 30mins or so to see the manager, who again doesn't know what the problem is with my application. She assures me that I won't have any more problems and all my interest will be paid from the date my application was received.
So now I'm just hoping I don't see that cheque again..
ps. just to add I was told by a clerk that they had received over 600 applications in one week at their branch, apparently they had to bring in extra staff to deal with the demand. She said they're been turning a number of people away because they'd just left it too late.0
