Is that even possible? :-/0 -

And also you left it quite late, the last month? You have had 11 other months you could have opened it in, so I do believe in this case, its your own fault.
But UNLIKE you, I did not know how much spare cash I could 'put a side' until last month ............ when I attempted to (and initially successfully) opened this Barclays ISA.
In this MODERN day and age, it should not be hard for companies as large as Barclays to run things better than they have so far done and my reason for posting my 'observations' over this matter, despite it being TOO LATE for last years ISA, is because there are many, many people out there that may still be looking for an ISA for this coming year and they will probably find it extremely helpful to know just how Good OR POOR Barclays are at running these ISA's.
As already pointed out by other users on this thread, Barclays are pretty poor at Customer Services, and as my own experience shows, they are not much better at answering the phone either ................... so despite the fact YOU dealt with a Wonderful Lady, I just hope you do not have any problems, when it comes to get some or all of your money out of the account and you have to deal with someone other than that Wonderful Lady??? :rotfl:0 -

The thing is, why does it matter how much spare cash you have AT THE END OF THE YEAR?
The minimum deposit is £1, you can surely spend £1 on opening an account, then when it comes to March you can deposit money into your full account, quite simple eh.
And the fact is I am opening my ISA now with £500 as this is all I can afford, obviously if I could I would put £3600 now, but as you say, most people don't know how much spare cash they're going to have.
And well, a company as large as Barclays suddenly get an influx of people who realise 'oh crap I haven't opened an ISA', alll trying to open them at once in the last month - pretty obvious they're not going to handle it great.
Whats the music event which everyone seems to want to go to and when tickets are online the site crashes? Do you have a go at them too?0 -
Ok I am giving an example. A few years ago there was a music event (I think it was Reading festival), where the tickets went on sale at 8am on a certain day. Now suprisingly, a lot of people went onto the website at 8am that day to get their tickets and the website crashed.
This then took quite a while to get sorted and there were a few disappointed people as they then couldn't get tickets.
Are you going to blame them as they weren't expecting so many people that did? You can't predict everything, and they aren't exactly ignoring you, they replied to your first email which clearly had the answers in.0 -
Nothing really to do with Barclays and the problems I have had trying to coax the simplest of information out of them, just so I can invest my money in one of their products!
Anyway, you've made your views clear .............. you do not like criticism against your beloved Barclays ....... fair enouth.
If others read this and it helps them make up THEIR minds, one way or the other then so be it, but if you are honest with yourself, you would admit their poor service during this End Of Year period is not acceptable in this day and age, plus if you have read many of the other post's on this thread, as well as several others, I am not the only one to bring the failings of Barclays to the public eye?
Then again, if your a bit of a ostrich, then of course keep your head buried in the sand and hope for the best!0 -
Or you don't leave it until the last minute to open your ISA
Good luck in the future, I'm sure you won't have learnt a thing from this experience.0 -
Hi Guys,
Glad I read this thread and for the advise ......... will be giving the Tax Haven a wide berth now (almost suckered in!).
I use to be a barclays customer about 5 years ago ........... they messed up both my business & my personal accounts, so it looks as if nothing has changed.
Thanks, guidarufino & scoobycando
Keep up the good work0 -
I'm really interested to see how this thread goes as I have to say I have never witnessed such incompetence in an organisation when I opened an ISA with Barclays last year. From my initial deposit of cheque in early April they eventually opened my ISA account in August - during that whole time they never had a clue where my application was in the system and constantly gave conflicting explanations. They just kept on saying that there had been an unprecedented demand for their ISA which as it was the best "headline grabbing" rate really shouldn't have surprised them.
This year I am also giving them a wide berth as although they eventually paid me £90 compensation the amount of phone calls and hassle wasn't worth the aggravation.
Hopefully they will have learnt something from last years debacle as I was not an isolated case, their disorganisation was truly astounding. Until you have your account number as confirmation that they have successfully opened your account I wouldn't count all your chickens.0
