Barclays cash ISA

Well I for one will never ever use Barclays for anything ever again as long as I live. Their customer service is appalling. I sent a 3 page letter of complaint to their ISA department in Liverpool and CC'ed their office and the Financial Ombudsman Service. I have told them if I don't get a satisfactory response to my complaint and, more importantly, my money by Wed 9th April, I will be taking legal action against them. My dad suggested if I don't have the cheque by then that I go to the branch and stage a sit in until they give me my money which I fully intend to. I'm busy at work on Wed so they'll have an extra day's grace. If I don't have my cheque by Thursday, I'm going to the branch and will tell them very loudly in front of all the customers in the branch what's happened and will refuse to leave until I have my money in my hand in the form of a banker's draft. No Unapproved or Personal links in signatures please - FT30

Dumb question again - presumably the cheque to Barclays ISA Office should only be for £3,599 to prevent going over the £3,600 limit?
Ideally top ups should be made at a branch then u will get a receipt for the deposit in your hand and it will get logged, poster that was being answered was abroad at the time he was wanting to make an additional deposit I believe.0 -

Whats with loads of people signing upto this forum and moaning about Barclays? Sheesh.0 -
am I really the only person on this board not to have had any problems opening my tax haven isa?
as previously mentioned I filled in applic in branch, straight off the street and handed over £100 cheque, about 3 weeks ago.
rec'd letter confirming applic and that an acc no and welcome pack would be with me soon.
went into branch today [ no queues!] and handed over £3500 cheque and got a receipt so all interest will be paid from today. the cs lass who opened my acc and took my cheques said she'll ring me this afternoon woth acc no, as they are being issued through out the day.
before you all ask : I am not a barclays member of staff/have family working there, nor any reason to praise them, except for good service I have received and would expect to receive elsewhere!0 -
Was this an application for 08/09?
I wouldn't know yet to be honest as I am at uni and I have kept home address as home so if all things have gone right with you, in a weeks time mine should be all set up wh00p. Now I just need £3100 to top mine up
(And thank goodness there is a poster who doesn't come here to moan)
[edit]
i also went in on a Monday, was suprised how quiet it was, not that I'm complaining as I got seen to quite quicklyMondays are good for banks, bad for 8am wake up calls for work!

Thanks for that - we will pop into a branch this morning! Presumably the counter staff can deal with it (we don't know the numbers of our new ISA accounts yet) or will we have to see a "consultant" do you think?0 -

Uve probably already gone for your Barclays experience Mk2 :rotfl:
Was announced on Barclays webpage on 15th May 2007 that people could top up their ISAs at a branch whether their ISAs had been opened or not due to the fact that people ( including me) was miffed at not being able to add to their ISAs due to account opening delays.
I believe a poster on here has had it confirmed that the arrangement remains in place and that interest will be backdated irrespective of when they cash the top up cheque.
If you or anybody else encounter any problems regarding this i suggest you/they phone Barclays Complaints freephone no. 0800 282 390 (UK only free call)

Just a little note.
I applied for my Tax Haven ISA 07/08 online. I went into the branch today to double check on the application. I was told all was well, and the usual that they had a massive backlog but it would be processed. They also stated interest would be backdated to date I opened it online, so nothing to worry about there.
Lady also mentioned that last year because of the massive backlog, people weren't be informed that it would be backdated. She said that when I recieved my documentation it MAY not state it'd be backdated BUT it would, regardless of what it said.0 -

No, not at all, but it is surely going to be a lot more automated and therefore less work for both Barclays branches and for their ISA processing centre if the bulk of applications are made online. It can't be a coincidence that their online applications are sorted out much faster than in-branch ones?
Not according to poster above this quoted post.0
