Bails I am sorry to hear about he demise of your mouslet. As Nyk says, you made his last few hours more comfortable than most wild creatures experience.

Whitewing have a virtual big hug:grouphug: , a box luxury chocolates and a bottle of wine from me. Haven't got any words of advice except hang on in there.

dfw one thing about this challenge is it makes you realise exactly where the overspends are happening :D

Is anyone having a bet on the National?

Had a letter from the Post Office Car Insurance to say that my £50 cashback will be paid into my debit card account within 60 days. Bet they wish they hadn't accepted me after I ran into the tree a few days after joining

ME!!!!!!! I have free bets to use up and hope to get something back - I just need to find a horse that stays upright and gets around alive - I can't watch the actual race as it terrifies me! You know the 'hide behind the pillow and peek out occasionally' look? Heart in mouth, virtually lifting your horse over the fences? That's me! :o Long, long, long gone are the days of wanting to ride round Aintree!

Did anyone notice there's a horse called Tazbar running today? Wonder if we could get some sort of Selling Stakes going with Tazbar, a horse named eBid and another called eBay? :rotfl: They all sound like 'bidable' beasts.

Thanks for the greenhouse link, Grandma247, I have saved it for future use :)

I was going to have a bet using Martin's tip via Betfair for the free £25 but I've read the T&Cs and it says you can't do it if you are in a voluntary arrangement with creditors which we are so can't do it.
How they would know I can't imagine but I'm always ultra careful!

Thanks for all the mouse comments, he was a little cutie!

Just spoke to my mum, they've seen tigers 5 or 6 yards away, I'm so jealous! Having a fab time - OH now wants to spend our 3 1/2 months in India :D We love it there! I LOVE TRAVELLING!!! Still no word on whether there'll be a job at school, need to be patient and not book flights somewhere...:rotfl:

I'm having a bet on the National if my bank transfer gets there in time. Can't watch the race either Nyk, eek!

Thanks for the greenhouse, I got rather overexcited looking at it, and OH seems more interested in the idea too :T It'd take me forever to find 1,500 bottles though, sad considering how many thousands must be thrown out every week.

Our car is costing us a fortune!! It's not part of this challenge but it's still eating up far too much of our budget each month, grr! I really hope I can do without having to get another one...

i just went on my lunch break at work, and asked generally what people could advise me to do with the betfair bet... my boss said he could see a gambling glint in my eye and then spent half an hour going over horses, dogs, local courses etc etc...

if i end up addicted we will know who to blame....

    I have caught numbercrunchitis, NYK!

instead of being daunted by the £1500 thing, i am now excited....if i can manage it......

if i can sustain it, when i do my postgrad course, i can save up enough from my volunteering pittance (from jan 08 - sept 08) to strrrrettttttttttchhhh for 8 of the 10 months that the course runs....

so if i can magic up £603.34 i can cover the last 2 months, plus the bus pass money and because i am 95% sure my place will be funded, i will be freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

(apart from maybe some placement costs - but i will think up a scheme for them if needed)

I can then claim student loan/travel expenses/student overdraft and stooze stooze stooze :D

so i am going to cancel my 'interest beater challenge' and start 'the great university challenge' of 2008 (gulp)

i think i will include the money i made working a weekend a while ago to start it off, as i didnt deduct it from anything at the time

should i work out how much interest i have stoozed from my current graduate overdraft over the course of 2008 and include that as UC money? i cant work out future loan/travel/overdraft stoozing profits cos that will depend on future jobs and will stretch waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay into the future

    ooh im excited now

Bails, ask everyone you know to save bottles for you and try beachcombing any time you get the chance. When I eventually find somewhere to build my recycled greenhouse, that's where my bottle's will come from - I have started saving them already. (I know, I know - tons of junk to move when I eventually buy a house, but it'll be worth it, I'm sure it will! :D)

Jumble_Bee, you should just open a completely new high interest account (or use an existing one) and save every penny of your great university challenge money into that. It means that the ISA space is free for stooze funds and you have a full year to play catch-up so that the repayments don't need to come back out of it.

I've stoozed my 2008/9 ISA so it's in the bank from day 1, and have set myself the challenge (yes, yet another one) of meeting the minimum repayments from my earnings saved from frugal living, if this makes sense. I still need to work out the entire year combining all my challenges as this year is the final year of preparation for my 2009 attempt at financial self-sufficiency. :T I am in the middle of doing that now, as it's being done along with 2007/8 accounts.

i think i will just track cash earned towards the UC in my sig, and not acyually separate it from other dosh, its all in a high interest account anyway

i will be filling my ISA from day 1 too, i have a backlog of student loan cash from the old days when i was too young and silly to understand ISAs 9but luckily too much of a natural fruggaler to spend the cash)

....oh my, my boss just came through and slipped me a bit of paper with horse names on it... anyone want in on my hot tips? :)
