We have been gathering a good store of free logs which we were offered by a friend which will save a packet. Now I have to decide whether its worth investing in a bigger log burner as we are going to struggle to afford to use the oil central heating as back up if next winter is very cold.

My brother, who lives in the Charente in France gets a huge load of free logs from the local village every winter. All the pensioners in the village get them.
It would be nice if they did the same here for pensioners.I know we get our £200.00 every winter, but I wonder how far it will go this winter if fuel costs keep going up.
I try to pay extra during the summer so I have a reserve on my account when the weather gets cold .As I have Osteo-arthritis in my joints I have to keep the tempreture around 20c at least in my house or I start to sieze up. I am lucky that I don't have to choose between 'heating or eating',although many of my contempories do sadly.
I also have thick lined curtains that I draw before it gets too cold (bought in a charity shop for £12.00) A blanket over my knees on the sofa, and a thermos of HM soup keep me warm in the winter. Most important to keep warm when one is not quite as mobile

Great pix, Nyk. It's a frugalfroglet! :D Probably downsizing from a bigger pond up the road to cut down on expenses.

Mumzy you do make me laugh :) I can still see you in December saying " I'm just going to start again" Lol.

It's ok by me.I've spent loads this month and want to run and hide but if I just rejig my budget then i won't need to panic.7 months left by my reckoning.

Working on our figures of £5570.40 for the year. You could have £3249.40 left which averages at £464.20 per month.Hope that helps :)

Great pics Nyk, loving the downsizing frog Redglass :rotfl:Congratulations to your DD and to Andromache as well - would they really be so unhappy for you?
Mumzy, have you kept receipts, you could go back and take off the cigs, or just not count them from now?
Fizzel, sorry about the freezer, what a nightmare; I'm sure you and Mollymop (and probably me when I finally add up my spends!) can work it out before the end of the year.
Had a great time last night (after Marru stole all my tea :rotfl:) with my family - we had a yummy dinner and got out loads of old photos of my parents' parents and before, postcards from both wars etc. Got fed a massive brunch this morning too so only just had to eat now!:D Managed to get out in the very windy garden and have planted out the rest of my veg so I now have a broccoli farm on the go :rotfl:Our herd gardens have been added to and we also came across a verveine today so happy about that! The beds are netted from the cats, electrofied for the slugs, let's hope we have some success. I'm going to plant up some courgettes when I have some more compost as OH loves them too, and can do the garlic then as well. I'd like to get a raspberry bush in - we have red and blackcurrants and a embryonic blueberry - and need to get some strawberry plants too as we have a planter for them now. Mum even got me some more gardening gloves :D
I'm about to book flights to Amsterdam, tried loads of Easyjet codes but no luck. I'd rather not fly but it's too far not to cane me completely, as the music festival seems to be in the middle of nowhere! OH was v impressed tonight as I was reading the Dutch website; hidden talents me ;) We're getting really excited about it now and it'll be a fab way to celebrate my burfday so I'm trying not to think of the costs too much. Which reminds me, I spent about 20 mins in Mr T today justifying to myself that I could buy a pair of shorts 'full price' (even though they actually had 20% off ); I am addicted :rotfl:
Janey, I hope things go well for ou and OH next week x
JackieO, the 'heating or eating' dilemma is such a sad one; I'm glad you at least don't have to choose.
ps Mr T have BOGOF on Ocean Spray at mo- seems extravagant but OH insists on juice and won't drink basics; this works out at 56p a litre and own brand is 88p...so I bought a whole box!

    Morning all!

I've been up this morning working out my projected income/outgoings until April '09 :eek: That's if my support stays the same...I am very grateful but hate the uncertainty of it all  Got to focus on the day to day though, hopefully it won't be like this forever.
(It can't be because my savings are disappearing!)
Not the best weather here so not sure what today's plan is; hope everyone has a good one though!

Just like to say 'thanks a bunch' to the guys talking about the storage challenge lol :p I started looking at 'emergency rations' online last night, which lead to survival websites, which lead to this - http://zombiehunters.org/forum/ :D :rotfl:

Found that they're not actually nutjobs, 'zombie' is a metaphor they use for a number of realistic 'end of the world' scenarios, and got quite interested in some of the topics. Next thing I knew it was 4am :rotfl:

I'm thinking a bunker would be an ideal place to store dried and tinned goods if you're running short on space nyk ;):p

Hmm, are you sure William Zombie Hunter 100 isn't in fact a zombie himself? He certainly looks scary enough :rotfl:
