DS was in for lunch and asked the obvious - WHY have I filled the cupboards with pasta, rice and tinned tomatoes? Is there a war? I explained that it was to avoid any future shortages and price hikes, but he just laughed and said the shortages were only because I had bought up all the pasta and rice in the area!! :o He could have a point here...

    :rotfl::rotfl::T that's great!!

I agree too, MollyMop. They have real difficulty getting blood out of me these days too so I know how you feel and I would be upset by treatment like that as well. Make sure you put how you didn't feel your concerns were listened to - surely the first rule in a caring profession?! As for the wiping, Definitely complain, you have a right to be treated with care and respect, not to mention safely!

Nyk, a friend and I are also considering stocking up on things - I'm aware this might all lead to a nation of stockpilers, but I'd like to avoid the price increases too. What to do?

Oooooohhhh thats horrible Mollymop. I would definitely tell someone at the practice about this. Yes accidents happen but she should have taken much more care both while taking your blood and after it. Is there a practice manager or similar you could contact and discuss it with? Hope you feel better soon ((((hugs))))

I work with blood and we have to be really careful to make sure everything is ok for our donors before, during and after donating and also for those of us who work with it. People who are nervous/uncomfortable with the process should ALWAYS be listened to and treated with respect. It is very possible to do this and be professional!!

Mollymop as a just retired nurse I have to say the behaviour you have described by this so called professional is completely out of order. This needs reporting. you could have a word with the Practice Manager and no-one needs to know who the complaint came from.
This "nurse" needs, at the very least, re-training and could do with disciplining. She is unsafe in her practice and obviously hasn't got a clue about the basics of patient care not to mention health and safety.

I hope you are OK as this is traumatic even to read, let alone having had to experience it first hand.

No kidding, I nearly passed out :o

I have piercings and a tattoo, so the needles can't be the problem. I've had plenty of cuts and nosebleeds etc, so that's not the problem... But for some reason the thought of a needle in a vein and spilling blood makes me feel a bit sick. I'm a bit strange I think.

    Hope you're feeling better Mollymop!!

Hello all, I'm back online after the hot sunny day was swiftly ended by a ferocious electrical storm that knocked out the power and my Internet connection. I'm not a happy chappie as I was working via Office Live at the time and lost my website update! That'll teach me not to save every 2 minutes! (There are still some types of 'saving' that I completely overlook!!!)

Bails - you don't need to spend a fortune stocking up, just choose a few things you use a lot of that are currently cheap, like my 20p pasta, or 5p shower gel, and bulk buy different items. I was number-crunching earlier and worked out that if my household ate pasta twice a week, rice twice a week, homegrown salad, veggies and potatoes the other 3 days from now until November (6 months) then buying it in bulk would cost me about £5 for pasta, £11 for rice, about £20 for potatoes, carrots, onions, peppers etc to last until mine grow (bought cheap, prepared and then frozen). We eat loads of tomato based sauces, so I'd allow a couple of tins of tomatoes a week, which would cost about £12 All of that for 6 months and it doesn't even amount to £50 from the £600 budget I have for 6 months. I'm thinking that my overall grocery budget for a year could, realistically, be cut to 25% of my annual allowance.

Despite being an avid number cruncher, I have never actually kept a strict tally on what a full year's groceries cost until now. I have never worked out in advance how much we need, as opposed to how much I actually buy. And despite grumbling at the cost of eggs, 10p each being the cheapest I can get them, I keep forgetting that 1 egg per person adequately makes a souflee omlette for lunch, and I can throw anything in with that, so the entire meal probably costs no more than 25p per person and that's allowing for some grated cheese on top!

I did number-crunch the hen keeping and worked out that our household could get through 30 dozen eggs over the space of a year (£36 - £45 depending on what type), so I'd need to keep at least 2 hens. How much does it cost to buy, keep and care for 2 hens nowadays?

:rotfl: :rotfl: I knew it would be a contageous symptom of frugalitis!

And sorry Molly & Bails for laughing about this, but perhaps getting blood from a frugalite is like getting money from a frugalite - darned near impossible without a fight!! :rotfl: :rotfl:

:rotfl:I clearly only have frugalitis running through my veins!

I had a brainstorm earlier - well, it's actually really obvious but it hadn't crossed my mind for some reason  I want to make the most of Mr A's cheap flour but don't have one anywhere near me so I've been trying to work out if the savings will outweigh the petrol. And then I remembered I can get it delivered  So I'll be finding a free delivery code and doing my main shop there this month I think.

Glad you're feeling a little better now Mollymop. LOL at MrDT!
