  • Thanks all! Will do the free one tomorrow (A thick rug folded over a few times) underneath...

Then will pop next door and ask if we can test it and see how bad it is.

If still bad even with it on very low volume, i'll have to try an alternative solution :)

All for one movie a week too haha!!!

  • this is not an older generation thing, i'm in my early thirties and have suffered from this this twice. people dont realise how bad bass is!! the problem with bass is that is all you hear, in fact you dont hear it, just feel it rattling through you own property.

as a neighbour in years gone past i have probably been the most liberal of people when it comes to noise in that it doesnt bother me if i can hear what they are playing! but what does bother me is if all i can hear is THUMP! THUMP! THUMP! for hours on end.

regarding the legal aspect of this, it is now been removed from the police's remit of duties and anyone complaining needs to contact enviromental health, which are next to useless.

my advice to anyone suffering from this, is to "subcontract" the problem to a noise polution expert (aka a thug in the pub) in exchange for a small fee, it's amazing how quiet these kids are after a "little discussion" with the "experts"
  • I understand that Benefits Blagger, and please don't think I have no respect.

I just want to make sure people don't get the wrong idea. It's not a situation whereby we play a lot of loud music causing problems... Its uaully one movie on a sunday afternoon and it isnt that loud! I seemed to have underestimated bass which I'll look into, but the problem isn't as serious as what people have suggested :)

over the years ive come to realise that some poeople just find it totaly offensive that they can her what your doing on the other side of the walls, volume isnt always the issue, as a teenager living at home with my my mum joined both sides it was the neighbour furthest away that used to compain about my music, my room was an adjoining room with hous next doors kids bedroom, that neighbour said she could hear it but in no way was it loud enough to be a nussance, she wouldnt even accept it as an excuse from her kids if they were monkeying about instead of going to sleep.

the guy who whinged was a nightmare, right upto the day i told him im not turning it down, and next time he knocked i would knock his F-in block off.

ive been lucky for the last 7 years ive had neighbours who like music and play it loud once in a while, i dont whinge at them they dont whinge at me, infact the only people who whinge are my kids, so i only ever play it when ive got the house to my self.

i would say tho that my neighbours on 1 side have had a few parties over the last year going on till about 4-5 am i dont mind atall, dont mind that we dont get an invite, but i do think its prety rude to not give your neighbours the heads up that things might get a bit noisy.

oddly enough tho im in the process of moving, im regularly in the house decorating and the elderly neighbour knocked to intorduce herself and mentioned she has a court order baring loud music due to the previouse dweller, she seems realy nice and assures me it was him being unreasonable about it that led to the court order. ive told her there wont be any loud music as i wear headphones 99.9% of the time. didnt tell her my son got an eleci guitar for his birthday tho, LOL, but once were in ill get him to whack it on full nip next door and ask if shes hearing it, and is it bothering her, the compromise will be negotiated from there.

have you read what I said? *sigh*. Please people stop stereotyping!!!!!!!!!!!! *cries*

ONE movie a week, maybe twice MAX and its not on that loud. People have suggested softening bass and I'd like to know more about this.
For goodness sake......you keep saying how your music is not on loud....it obviously is!!!!! Why else can the lady next door hear it????

Turn the surround sound off......it really isnt appropriate in a block of flats. You might feel that you 'have a right' to your surround sound.......but this lady has a right to NOT hear it in her room!

It's the one off films she can hear. Not music... As i said she came round when watching a film.

Also if you read all the posts you'd notice its not the volume thats the problem, it's the frequencies of the bass.

    Thanks

how about explaining the party and explaining it will be a rare occurance but may get noisy & explain your oh's disability & ask to come into their flat when your surround sound is at a normal volume for you to see the effects in their flat which perhaps you could remedy?
