Rented House - Law on sound?!?

Sorry to hear about your company

She really sounds like she's just been building it all up inside, but it sounds like you handled it all really well. You've done your best and she has to be reasonable too.0 -
The funny thing is her husband answered the door. When I apologised to him he said it doesn't bother him at all, but then the lady came along and decided to go at me for round 2 even though I was apologising it and offering to fix it!
So frustrating![FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

merciless.....
I mean really the vibrations aren't that much!""
i have read this all the way thru and you seem to be saying over and over again - in a variety of ways - "its not my fault" - well actually it is - you do NOT know how loud the vibrations are in your neighbours flat - you have not gone in there with yoru music on to listen to it at various levels - you have been given a wide variety of technical solutions - yet in spite of saying you will spend money to sort it - all you have done is accept a second hand blanket and gone to talk to her.
I'm sorry if this is not what you want to hear, and i am not being offensive, but you are not facing up to this - go buy whatever soundproofing is recommended to you - go cadge egg boxes and put them under speakers - go remove speakers which are screwed to inappropriate walls - whatever it takes - but for goodness sakes - take some practical action ............ "sorry and flowers" just wont sort it - you know that ..........
or if there is no soundproofing solution - then sell the blinking thing ............0 -
Actually I believe some posters were constructive in giving me steps...
1) talk to her
2) material underneath (rug carpet etc)
3) bass floor thing
4) more sound proof stuff
5) Unplug it
And I also said that's what I'd do.
What more do you want? I've also said I know its my fault but the lady doesn't have to exaggerate it so much! Her husband said he doesn't even notice the noise lol
I am facing up to it. But with other things on my mind (like life) i'm not going to go and spend £50 when the material may do it! :S And equally I can't do EVERYTHING in one night
EDIT: Remember Clutton, this is MSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ( guess what it stands for?

Update guys.
Went over with a big apology and told her I found out it was part of my stereo sending vibrations though so I'll ensure it stops etc..
What did she do? She went for round 2!!!!!! started going mad with me again.
...but no flowers, home made cake, wine etc eh!! I bet that would have clinched it!!
Hope your other problems sort out. Sounds like you are doing enough on this front to appease most mortals...0 -
I can really relate to your situation.
Me and my husband live in a semi, both of the houses are rented. Our old neighbour was fantastic and we used to never hear anything from her. I had a party one night with a few friends coming over, I checked way in advance if this was ok and also invited her round.
Unfortunately our old neighbour moved and we have a new neighbour. A man in his 60's who has the tv on exceptionally loud to the point where I can hear every single word of the programme he is watching. Now as a rule I don't mind this, but he is doing it past anti-social hours (after 11pm).
I appreciate he may have issues with hearing, my husband is deaf in one ear as a result of menieres but we do try to keep the noise down after 9pm.
I went round to my neighbour and introduced myself and made a few casual hints about the walls being thin but obviously that did not do the trick so think I am going to have to lightly approach him about this.
I really hope you can get this sorted with your neighbour, I don't think that you are making noise at unreasonable hours. Lets hope the rug will be a solution for all.0 -
The rug is definitely an MSE option haha. In all honesty I don't expect the vibrations to be loud as the bass is REALLY turned down contrary to what people may assume though I'll be finding out tomorrow evening

I just found it hilarious the husband acted absolutely fine about it and said he couldn't hear a thing! Yet he DEFINITELY has better hearing from talking to the both of them :P
Either way no flowers or chocolate. With my company in liquidation I can't afford them
Will be saving every penny for the food until the situation is resolved! That's also why I'm trying the rug situation first.
I'm told I'll still be employed but the investores won't be appearing for another day or so.. Praying it's tomorrow!
Either way, I'll keep apologising and trying hard even with her giving me none stop grief when i'm trying to be nice

I think it says a lot that the woman's husband doesn't have a problem with noise and the landlord isn't surprised she's complaining.
Good grief Clutton, give the man a break, he has said he's willing to try and sort the problem out, visited to say sorry and then got more grief, oh and the problem was surround sound on the TV not music "One thing that is different, and has changed here, is the self-absorption, not just greed.
