I'm using the Lidl stuff with one part water so it is good to -20c according to the label. Hasn't froze yet.0

No problems using Halfords own (green colour) you dilute 5 litres, used it last winter and didn't freeze up0

Meths, water and floor cleaner.....
The colder it is, the more meths you add.0 -
I've been using Wilkos cheapo concentrate stuff for a couple of years now, 79p for 500ml, mix 4 parts water to 1 for summer and 2 parts to 1 for winter. At that price, it can be 1 part to 1 when we hit the deepest darkest depths of winter and last year it didn't fail me even on Christmas day, when it -13 locally and the water supply was frozen lol.
I'm pretty sure Tesco Value and Asda Smartprice is the same stuff (similar priced too) for those of you who don't have a Wilkos local to you.0 -
Do some of you bath in the stuff, don't tailgate and you won't use so much.0

I don't tail gate but I use it to fend off tail gaters.0 -
Holy thread resurrection
Lidl's £5.99/5L/-60c stuff is good - but don't use it neat! I had to put some in neat because I ran out whilst driving behind a grit lorry and I'm now adding water to it as often as i can because it is stupidly concentrated and actually makes vision worse as it builds up on the window0 -
We been conned and conned on screen wash, many brands not disclosing the performance of the product, some winter products only protecting to just below freezing.
We've been on a motorway with a dirty windscreen 200 miles away with a suddenly frozen washer system, it should be a criminal offence to sell Winter Screen Wash that does not protect sufficiently (or it should at least say what it does).
Halfords stuff in Dec 2011 is £7 for 1 litre that protects to just -27C if used neat, thats about £28 to fill you washer bottle up (4 litres required in our case), diluted it's useless (ie: -9C), we had below -20C here last winter for over a week (Tewkesbury).
After a lot of ringing round (hours), we are pleased to say APD Motor Factors came to our rescue, 5 litre concentrate protects to -40C, diluted 1:1 we think it's OK for -13C.
Here's the beast bit, it cost us less than £3 over the counter, we bought a four pack (20 litres concentrate) for £8 + vat. (Polygard Arctic Screen Wash)
An excellent first post! Thanks
I use a carplan concentrated 5 litre bottle I bought about 4 years ago, I still have 2 litres left (after todays fill up). I had run my bottle dry and am driving to France tonight, I decided I would fill it with a strong winter mix so I have just put in a 50/50 mix even though the carplan label says 25% is enough. Last winter I used the same stuff to maybe 30 - 40% and I got floating ice in the bottle (but not frozen solid) and frozen pipes/jets.
I then top up with water throughout the rest of the year and I don't need to add any more "screenwash" until the following winter.
My washer bottle is 2 litre capacity0 -
What kind of poster drags up such an old thread with a post like that?
You know, a post where he says how much something really fantastic can be bought for +VAT. ?
Mmmm, I wonder.0 -

I really don't care,.......... if it's true, no matter what the source, then it's a good post. And if you look back through this thread it has been merged at least 3 times with other threads so arguably it is correct to post in this thread as the "screenwash" thread.0
