What about some Neon Tetras?;)
[quote=sb44;Or_what_about_some_Angler_fish?[/quote]
Omg they are so pretty... but OK, answer me this then you jolly MSE fun makers with alllllllll your lovely suggestions *giggles* - how would I stop the fish coming out of the tap into my watering can when I filled it up from the waterbutt, or do I just take the risk that watering my tomatoes might now involve live creatures??? Perhaps I could water the garden with a large net under my watering can just in case I have to catch a loose fish.. :rotfl:
Maybe I should explain that my water butt is 5ft tall with a lid, so the fish would have to be VERY neon to show through that :rotfl: :rotfl:
Thank you all, tramps, sb44, Valli and Sammi-kaye18 - you have all made me laugh more than once today!!:TTo be frugal, you need to spend money wisely, simply spending less is not enough. If you can't handle me at my worst then you don't deserve me at my best...Courage doesn't always roar. My husband bought it from Peter Maturi's in Leeds which is a shop selling professional cookware. I usually only go in there to dream. It is a really efficient one, though, and the writing on it says 'Pioneer by Grunwerg'. He doesn't know that I know how much it cost, but it was £19.99 and seems just about indestructible, I have had it for years.
I hope this helps.Ankh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!0 -
Does everybody else, like me, watch TV in the dark? I've done this ever since my grandparents got their first TV set in 1957 - and would now find it very strange to actually have the light on while watching.
In fact we very rarely have the 'big light' on (quote from Peter Kay!). The only lamp that we use is a tall standard one with halogen bulb and dimmer switch and a small 'reading lamp arm'. Oh yes - and my side lamp in the bedroom. For years, I've left a landing light on at night, but since coming into this house, that is one habit that has changed into leaving the bathroom light on. The landing here has two lightbulbs and also controls the light at the bottom of the stairs - so that means 3 lightbulbs :eek: .0 -
Sadly I do have to have the lights on sometimes during the day as my house is extremely dark and it does seem to affect my moods.I get barely any natural day light. I have invested in energy saving daylight (sad type) bulbs (around £9) each but they are supposed to last seven years and use a lot less elec. After reading this thread though, I have only put them on when the days are particularly gloomy.Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

my mother in law use to do this but now she leaves her bathroom light on - i asked her why as when we lived with her it use to drive me mad as it was outside my bedroom door and i cant slep unless its pitch black.
She said she'd seen on a television show that a good deterent for burglars is for them to see a light on they think someone is awake in the house so will move on to the next. (the fact she has a very overprotective border collie didnt matter - no the light on works apparently)
Never did quite get that but it makes perfect sense. I do leave the toilet light on but only if boyfriend has gone out and is staying out the night which is very rare indeed and i have a dog too!!!!! I am getting better though as the last few times hes been out ive left it off but after havign a drunken man trying to get in my front door (all flats in our estate look the same and its easy to disorientate yourself - luckily the door was locked, with the key out of it - i tend to lock it if its nighttime and me and ben are alone in the flat) ive started to leave the light on again nowTime to find me again0 -
I always used to use washing powder, where the amount used can easily be altered according to what you are washing/how dirty the load is.
when I got together with (now) DH he used tablets - he says he doesn't get on well with powder, it is too messy, and having seen him using it I tend to agree! LOL!
However, I was unable to convince him that one tablet is sufficient to wash a load 'cos "the packet says you need two" (rolls eyes heavenward in despair!).
A while back I bought a cheap packet of soda crystals in Morrisons, as my mum told me they were good for cleaning sinks & drains (we had pipes blocking at the time) - well they didn't do the job unfortunately, so I had to buy some really strong stuff - but that's another story.
I've put the soda crystals into a tub, cut off the part of the packet which has the name and stuck it on so we know what is in there, BUT threw away the part with the instructions/recommended dose......So I have now managed to convince DH that one washing tablet, plus a very small scoop of washing soda (about the size of the scoop in the 'vanish' style stain remover which lidl sell, IFKWIM), is the most effective way to wash the clothes, as the washing soda is 'very strong stuff you know'!
A box of washing tabs is lasting me ages now, AND the clothes are just as clean!
This month's challenge is getting him to minimise the washing conditioner - he insists we need this even tho' I buy washing tabs with it included. I bough a HUGE bottle on offer a long while back, which we are just about at the end of, so I'm going to buy a small cheapie bottle, put it in the big one and top it up with water - see if he notices....
I suppose that I should be grateful that he will put the washing in the machine from time to time really, I know that many men out there wouldn't do that....and he is lovely really!....just needs his reality adjusted from time to time!!!!The best advice you can give your children: "Take responsibility for your own actions...and always Read the Small Print!"
