No pond - no room - although I'm trying to find a way of squeezing in a small one. Hadn't even thought about that - had one years ago and I don't remember topping it up - just waited for the rain!

My OH loves his fish more than me!!! And another one kids are now having a water fight using our water
  • I use 10 litres per day watering my veg (one growbag and 2 big tubs of strawberries) That workes out as 1.7p per day!! To put it another way, 2 flushes of the toilet.

I have invested in products to conserve water which actually pay for themselves in under 1 year.

I spent £25 with www.tapmagic.co.uk to convert all my taps (also makes them spray water like high quality hotels etc)
I spent £27 with www.ecocamel.co.uk for an aerated shower head. Reduces water use by 30% (checked by me, a bucket and a stopwatch). still gives the same feeling if not better.

I know this thread is about saving money not spending it but my investment is 1/6th of my annual water usage. The pay back for me (low user anyways) will be under 1 year, saving me £50 per year after that (£200 over 5 years)

Not to be sniffed at if your planning on not moving for at least 1 year and your stuck on the meter.
Lets get this straight. Say my house is worth £100K, it drops £20K and I complain but I should not complain when I actually pay £200K via a mortgage:rolleyes:

We're not on a water meter but seem to have a built-in way of saving water. It's called "limescale on the shower head" which over the course of every few weeks builds up so quickly that it virtually blocks the tiny holes in the water sprayer, and only lets the smallest dribble of water through !!

I have a barrel pond and after a couple of days of sunshine the level does drop so you do have to water it just like a plant! Better to use water from a waterbutt for this if you can rather than straight from the tap.
To be frugal, you need to spend money wisely, simply spending less is not enough.

if you have a dishwasher use the quick programme and dont add rinse aid, the longer programmes all have a drying cycle which uses electricity to dry the plates and rince aid to help

Could you not just put your fish in the waterbutt then???
    Time to find me again
  • Okkkk - I must still be a bit sleepy but why would I put my fish in a water butt? They live in the pond which is made from half a barrel.. I am sure you are probably making a joke but I have to admit I don't get it and I am a bit concerned cos I always thought I had a good sense of humour!!

Anyway, I was just trying to back up tramps comment about watering, nothing else, and I have been told that water from a water butt is better for ponds as it doesn't have all the chemicals in it that are added to our tap water!

Money saving diva i am with both of you
true tap water does have harmfull chemicals in it some people IF they can afford it buy stuff to filter them out my OH loves his fish got a big pond so we have to use tap water. On the other side a friend of mine lives on a caravan site not much space outside his caravan he keeps his fish in the water butt because he has no room for a pond.
