 I didnt mean to confuse/upset or anything with my comment. (your response sounded a bit narked - it was in no way ment to - apologys!):(
I was merely saying that Im sure I have seen people keeping their fish in water butts before as there was no worry about the water level dipping as it was continuously topped up by rain and the fishes were um.......in their own way helping the water by 'fertilising' it.
Surely it would also save a bit of space in the back garden too for some more veggie growing or something similiar.
sorry if i narked you again.Time to find me again0 -
Money saving diva i am with both of you
true tap water does have harmfull chemicals in it some people IF they can afford it buy stuff to filter them out my OH loves his fish got a big pond so we have to use tap water. On the other side a friend of mine lives on a caravan site not much space outside his caravan he keeps his fish in the water butt because he has no room for a pond.
Oh tramps that seems so cute - but my water butt is big and black and if a fish went in there I would never see it again *chuckles*
I do use tap water in my pond sometimes, the butt gets emptied quickly on those long hot summer days we are lucky to have down here a few days in the year!! I didnt mean to confuse/upset or anything with my comment. Oh you so didn't 'nark' me honey - I was just totally confused and wondered if I had said something stupid!!! I was really just trying to work out what I missed... *laughs* sorry if I sounded off, I was just trying to make sense of it. It all seems quite logical now you explained it!To be frugal, you need to spend money wisely, simply spending less is not enough. If you can't handle me at my worst then you don't deserve me at my best...Courage doesn't always roar. I hope you don't mind a newbie popping in, but although I have only read up to page 33 I wanted to add to the teabag debate.
For one birthday my darling husband, knowing I was a bit of a tea monster, bought be a huge thermos teapot. It is shaped like a very large coffee pot, actually, and has a spout and a lid. It is really efficient and unless you need your tea to be scalding hot it keeps the tea to a very acceptable standard for over 24 hours (if tea lasts that long near me)
Now, I like my tea quite weak, but I am confident this is adaptable for anyone. The teapot holds three litres (about 12 large mugs). I have to boil the kettle twice to fill it. So I put the kettle on, rinse out the teapot with hot water, put in two teabags. When the kettle has boiled I pour the hot water in to the teapot, refill the kettle and potter round the kitchen while those two teabags brew. At the second boil I fill up the teapot to the brim, give it a really good stir and remove the tea bags to prevent stewing. I then have tea ready for the rest of the day, around 12 mugs from 2 teabags.
Actually, my uncle kindly sent me some tea bags of Welsh tea (grown, I believe, in Ceylon, not Cardiff ) and they are so strong that I am only using one tea bag, well stirred round, so 12 mugs of tea from one tea bag. He gave me a box of 240 teabags, and I think I may struggle to use them all before they go musty.
Reading this thread (or, rather, to page 33 so far) has opened my eyes to a lot of tricks which I MUST try!Ankh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!0 -

Thermos Teapot - If you Google these, they will come up on Amazon but probably lots of other good hardware shops will sell them. You could try places like Robert Dyas0

The price of stamps goes up whereas the value of first and second class post remains the same (still takes the same time now as it will in a year). Makes them worth stocking up on/ combining with writing sets for presents... And they don't go out of date...God is good, all the time
