Where can i buy the pump dispensers from?
if you don't have any empty ones, i would say you will find them in a hardware shop or pound shop!

old soap dispensers are good, alternatively although it wont work for conditioner the foaming dispensers are great for the shampoo, you need about an inch in the bottom then fill the rest up with water, it looks like you are getting a lot of shampoo out so is nicely deceptive & she will definitely use less then. We use one but the bottle is bright yellow (johnsons foaming shampoo) I'm sure you can get soap ones though that are in slightly more attractive bottles which she would prefer.

it's that time of the year again so think about home made pressies if money is tight and harvest goodies from the garden such as lavender (yes I still have it in flower!) for filling bags, rose petels to go into pot pourri, herbs such as bay, fennel seeds, dill seeds to put in little gift tag envelopes to make a little gift to post.I made bouquet garni bags with muslin one year.

jars of home made preserves decorated with a pretty fabric top or cross stitched top.

wreaths made with twisted vine branches and evergreen foliage ,cones etc

there is so much free/cheap stuff you can use and borrow books from library for ideas.

tomorrow when I make my Christmas cake there will be some mix left over to make mini cakes to wrap in cellophane to decorate and sell at the church fair.

buy cheap fragranced candles and decorate with skeleten leaves and cellophane and ribbon for an "upmarket "pressie at a bargain price.

final thought for the day a young polish girl knocked on my door selling pictures,my 1st thought was to say no but I had a look and ended up buying a lovely pencil drawing of a cat for a few pounds which will look lovely in a frame and I felt good at having helped her(she told me it took about 3 days to do so I felt guilty at paying so little) for those without polish girls knocking on their doors how about a trip to a local art collage for a special gift hand made by a poor student?

When I make flapjacks I put all the broken bits up and put them aside to use up on cereal.
When baking I wipe inside the egg shell with my finger to make sure I've got all the egg out [yes I know I'm a very sad person:D]
For a cheap present I cut out a frame from thick cardboard and then embellished it with ribbon before adding a photograph. I've also seen some very effective necklaces made from buttons or threaded together on elastic to make bracelets. Last year I bought a cheap notebook and copied out 50 or so unusual jam or chutney recipes as my Dad's keen on making things in jars!

    OMG!

It has taken me about a week to read this thread and I love it!

So many wonderful hints and tips, many of which I will definately be trying, others I already have in place.

I remember as a kid, if my sister or I left a light on in a room we weren't in or left telly's radios etc... talking to themselves, we used to get fined 10p of our pocket money! Made us certainly think about turning things off. As much as it made us think our parents were the cruelest most horrible parents in the world. Our protests were always met with "when you have to pay your own bills you'll understand" Of course I've never told my mum that she was right and can now understand why they did it!

I did manage yesterday to get 7 hot drinks out of 2 green tea bags. The third cup I made with one was getting a bit week, but still drinkable, so put the bag on its little saucer (a big yogurt pot plastic lid!) and when my 2nd tea bag reached the same state I then used the 2 together for a perfctly fine cup of tea. I felt very proud of myself :j

I also used a can of baked beans yesterday and made sure that everyone filled its little bean destiny!

For all the people who make or have alternative cleansers etc... can anyone suggest something cheap and good for er.... shall we say blemish prone, skin? I use clinique at the mo but it aint cheap!!

Thank you all for the fab inspiration

Distilled witch hazel is good for your skin and much cheaper. Also deters "blemishes". Loads of other uses for it too.
  • Have you tried the Clinique soap? It lasts for ever and is well priced.
