  • When I'm in the shower I always turn the water off when I'm lathering up my hair/exfoliating my face etc. This really must help as our water bill is always tiny but I seem to spend years in the shower!

Also, I may have been known to, er, take toilet rolls home from work... :o in my defence, a) if they're going to leave stacks of fifty or so just standing there then that's just putting temptation right in my path and b) the company I work for makes billions of pounds profit and I certainly don't see any of that in my wages for the amount of graft I give them! :p

lol in our staff toilets the burst packets are dispensed so you end up with the expensive brands. i swipe them too,if i have to buy its 12 value rolls for less than£1.50. i laugh when i see people pay £5 for something they wipe their a** on then put down loo

  • Mooloo - my mother does the same thing - but she puts the veg with some cheese sauce and tops with breadcrumbs. If she doesn't need it there and then she freezes it - and pulls it out when expected visitors come - a vegetable bake! I have lost count of the amount of compliments she has had - when all it was was overcooked vegetables used to make stock!

  • Buy thicker tights. I got so fed up of laddering the flimsy 15 denier ones after one wear and since I work in an old Victorian building anyway, it's probably a good idea to have the more substantial ones.

    Ceriwden , That;s a lovely post, thanks.

When I am at work, I do tend to be fairly serious while working, but can have a giggle like the rest of them. I am surrounded by women who talk about women stuff, and not being girly, i dont join in - i dont shop from top shop or spend fortunes on cosmetics , so really doesnt interest me. I do join in when they talk about cooking - not often.!

I find it fairly hard to concentrate with a lot of people talking so am usually trying to concentrate to be honest.

Primarily I'm there to work, not make friends. That souns harsh. And i do have unpopular opinions-such as mobiles should be banned in public places etc :rotfl: But i do nice things (or at least I think i do), so didn't think it was really a fair comment . Ah well! I told my best friend and she killed herself laughing , then got angry! I don't let it worry me to be honest. As long as the people I choose to surround myself by appreciate me, then I'm happy with that.

    There's a difference. That's not MSE. That's theft.

Great tip about the stock veg - it always seemed like a crime to throw away the meaty juicy veg! Nom nom nom.

I treated myself to a sandwich the other day. (real treat) I held out my hand and said to the man "what can i get for £2.35" and he said " what ever sandwich you want love". Then he gave me a free jam doughnut :o I was well pleased. I don't know if i looked pathetic but I thought what ever his reason for doing it, it was incredibly sweet.

The butcher gave me two free bacon olives last week too and didnt charge me full price for my ham hock. I must just have "bad day" written all over me :rotfl:

OOH....I like my cheese sauce I do - any excuse for that will do.....

Breadcrumbs are a useful way of using up stale bread too. I had a little bit of stale bread - so I've just blitzed it up into breadcrumbs in the liquidizer and right now dinner tonight will be portabello mushrooms with a load of said stale bread in breadcrumb form thrown over the top, then a bit of sorta tomato type pesto dissolved in a bit of water (with mixed herbs/salt/pepper) and a bit of fried onions and topped off with a few slices of goats cheese and chucked a few salted nuts I have over the top. Served with steamed sliced potatoes and a salad - and hopefully that should be nice...:D

Actually - talking about cheese sauce - personally I often steam up some brown rice with chopped onions in it in my steamer and then pour some cheese sauce over the top. This gets served up with whatever else I have - maybe some mixed steamed veg? - depends whats in stock. A few nice nuts thrown over the top adds a nice bit of "crunch" too.

....oooh...my two favourite foods - cheese sauce and dark chocolate....any excuse to have either of them....

I know exactly where you are coming from personally. I dont think it sounds harsh - the type of friends worth making may be found at work/may be found out of work/who knows where - but, personally, I dont see the point of "going along with the gang" at work regardless. Some of my work colleagues I will have things in common with/like - others I wont. Some of my neighbours - ditto. Its only when one goes along to a social/community event of the type that you personally are interested in that the odds go up I find of meeting someone you personally are going to be friends with. Friends can be met anywhere - literally - I've met a friend in a laundrette before now and decades later - we are still friends. There is no prescription as to just where one will meet a "like mind" after all...

The thing about a workplace/a neighbourhood/etc is its "luck of the draw" just who else is there - but an activity one has deliberately chosen to take part in ones leisuretime - then there is a MUCH better chance of finding "like minds" there.

How do you stop the quilt from bunching up and wandering about under the sheet?
I like this idea but we have trouble keeping the mattress protector in place as it is so I can imagine a quilt would be everywhere except where we wanted it to be.

because it hangs down at the sides it doesnt seem to move but if I had that problem I would probably attatch some ties or elastic to hold it in place. Either that or I sleep in one position all night :rotfl:

We also use a folded duvet on top of the 'spare bed' when grandkids come to stay. The same one also gets used in the bottom of the travel cot (folded into 4) as a mattress in the base then wrap a sheet around the solid cot base and duvet to keep it all together when we have one of the babies overnight.

Whenever you use cheese in cooking add a little mustard. The cheese will taste stronger so you can get away with using less of it.
