Okay, I've plucked up the courage to ask a silly question - why do you use a mattress topper  is it just to make the bed more comfy?

...and they do make the bed more comfy - the feather ones do anyrate:D. They can transform a bed that is so hard/uncomfortable one is thinking of ditching it into "blissville" on the comfort front.
  • I have a Memory Foam Mattress topper (as do all my children, the guest bed, my mother and MIL:D) and I love it (I even have a travel one that I take away with me).

I did try a feather/down topper curtesy of QVC so was able to send it back when I found it drove me mad having to strip the bed to give it a good shake everyday!:o Maybe the newer ones are better.

However, anything (topper/blanket/duvet) between the mattress and the bottom sheet is essential to keep you warm and snug:D
  • Our mattress has a built in mattress topper, like a quilt on top but actually part of the mattress. It was initally really soft and comfy like aformentioned cloud....but now it is going a little flat so I think an added quilt will be well worth a try as I don't intend buying a new mattress for a good few more years.

  • Hiya, good morning all. Today as I am no longer employed, I am cleaning out some cupboards upstairs and making the use of time I just did not have before. Saving on pennies because I am finding things that have been pushed to one side like pictures that can go on walls of past holidays.
Unused envelopes, birthday cards, craft things. A towel with holiday sciene that can be put into use.Books for bookshelf to read at leasure.
Things I thought I would keep that I no longer need can go in charity bins.
Why do we keep all theese things and the space they take up?:o
If winter comes, can spring be far behind?

I would have this checked out, as it could be an allergy to nickel. If so, please do everything you can to help him avoid contact with it if not strictly necessary. One of my Mum's friends has a severe nickel allergy, and it is debilitating (e.g. has to run water for 1/2 hr before bathing due to the nickel in pipes).
Thanks, he's fine with his rings and watch etc, it's just the metal bit on jeans  Wierd huh?

I can't believe ive got to the end, it's taken me about six weeks! Wahoooo!

I made a toasted cheese sandwich the other day and thought it was quite MSE - I toasted the bread in the toaster, and melted the cheese in the microwave - no need to have the grill on for ages, which means we saved money on the electricity! Plus the cheese was on offer.

I am hunting for some new bedroom curtains for our room - after 20 years a pair of old velvet ones my mum gave us have seen better days!

Could those curtains be cleaned at all, cyclingyorkie? I ask because velvet curtains are lovely and thick. If they are at all redeemable, then if you wash them and remove the heading tape and open them out flat, you can use them "backwards" in the window - ie with the velvet side facing the street - and cover the side facing your room with new fabric. Cheaper than curtains, and as you've got a base, you just literally need to hand sew them over the top and machine new (or indeed the old) heading tape back on. You'd end up with warmer curtains than you could probably get otherwise.
  • If you have absolutely nothing to lose, just stick the velvet curtains in the wash. I washed and tumble dried ours and amazingly, they didn't shrink
  • Aww. That's how I feel when I've been away from home and miss my bed. Couldn't have put it quite so sweetly though.
I find it funny you describe something I said as sweet, when today I got told in work, I was quite a stern uncaring unemotional person :rotfl: So thanks for that :D

Kingshir , i know what you mean about the moving about, but i hardly move far in my sleep. Sometimes i barely need to make the bed , it's been disturbed that little.

On a similar theme - I have a great pair of tan leather and suede boots lined with sheepskin. The suede parts and the sheepskin became grey and black over time so when I was too embarrased to wear them anymore and I had nothing to lose - I bunged them in the washing machine at 30C! What a result - this first happened 3 years ago and I do them once or twice a year now. I put plenty of polish stuff on the leather bits afterwards and I recently had the heels soled and recoloured at the menders for £10. I've been stopped many times in the street as to where I bought them - but it was so long ago I can't remember!
