  • I always put a bit of cold water into the bottom of jars when cooking after most of the food in it tipped into saucepan, put lid back on shake and add to the pan...it gets all the dregs out and goes a bit further. Also every time I use a babywipe for wiping babys face or other little 'cleanish' job I clean something else with it on way to kitchen bin...even if only windowsill or a sideboard....get 2 for price of one that way....I find ASDA own smartprice babywipes 80 for 50p excellent...you prob wont beat that even with a bogof offer elsewhere. Stand your shampoo and conditioner bottles etc upside down when nearly empty to get dregs out and cut moisturiser foundation bottles etc in half when you think they are empty...you be surprised how much is left around the sides...esp with foundation you can get at least another weeks worth out you just gotta store it with a food bag over top to stop air getting in. I also store up the unused charity bags that come thru the door to use for rubbish bags or to take stuff to charity shops, in my experience if you leave them out empty they don't collect them anyway and they end up in the bin cos they are soggy. Apart from that dont think I do any more....could do with some ideas.

I use the charity shop bags that get left as well - as I'd also realised they never fetch the empty ones - so "waste not, want not". Just one thing - one does need to double-bag - as I've found when putting anything at all liquid-y in them. They've all got those ventilation holes in them - so I figure double-bagging them means that any liquid of any description cant "escape" into my bin.
  • I am hunting for some new bedroom curtains for our room - after 20 years a pair of old velvet ones my mum gave us have seen better days!

So in an effort to be organised I am hunting with the dimensions in my bag at all times.......... I will find a suitable replacement before the clocks go back if it kills me!

When you have finnished working on the computer you can choose stand by mode. This allows you to leave the computer switched on but reduce the power consumption. When you return it remembers exactly where you were and can carry on using the same applications. This saves on the electric bill.

you can save further energy if you use firefox, firefox will allow you to save and close meaning that when you open firefox again all the tabs you had open will open exactly to where you left them (perfect for going through really long threads like this!)

one thing to note though, all the tabs must be in the same window, if you have more than one window open and shut down the computer you won't get the option to save and close, however since firefox can handle 20 tabs or more open in one window this isn't really a big problem.

granted you'd not have your other applications just as you left them but i find many people don't need to leave a bunch of other things as is but are irritated having to try and find all their web pages again so this could be a real time and money saving option for some people as you can just shut the computer down all together.

i still need to get around to using my meter i got from british gas to see when it's more energy efficient to just leave the computer running vs when to shut down and start it up again, after i've figured that out i'll share my findings

Sneeky, well this morning I confess to half filling a empty bottle of Shampoo, wash & go sport 2 in 1 with shampoo and conditioner 2 in 1 tesco's own brand. Both bottles are now half full as the Tesco one is 400ml and the wash & go one is 300ml.Shame it would not all fit into the dearer brand. I wonder which will empty first?
