Sneaky ways to save the pennies

Just thought of something else, not really sneaky money saving but I guess it could save money on allergy creams or new jeans:
my DH has developed an allergy to the metal button on his jeans, where the inside of the button rests on his tummy. His skin was terrible there, really red raw. When I realised, i said i would paint clear nail varnish over the metal bit on the inside of the jeans which solves the prob! It creates a barrier between skin and metal. Superglue works too, and this can also be used on the inside of rings if you have an allergy to various metals but have a ring you like. Allow time for it to dry before wearing the item!"Snowflakes are one of nature's most fragile things, but just look what they can do when they stick together."

trumpettrousers wrote: »What do I do with ducks / Any advice. They are still whole, not been bled and obviously feathers the lot on!!!! I am going to have a look on the net but any advice on preparing them to cook and also recipes would be most helpful. I am thinking that maybe I have to hang them and cut the necks to let them bleed. The problem is I will not be able to cook with them straight away and will need to freeze the meat as my kitchen is out of action with builders swarming all over it for the next couple of days.
Any help would be much appreciated. Debra
The best bit of advice I can give you is either get a copy of Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall's Meat from the library, or beg/borrow/steal it from a friend! Failing that, here we go:- You don't need to hang the grouse or ducks for long - hang them by the neck, and you don't need to bleed them. The longer you hang them, the stronger the "gamey" flavour will be. Hang them somewhere cool like a (well ventilated!) garage, larder or cellar for a couple of days.
- If you're just going to use the breast meat, you don't need to completely pluck the bird - you can skin it quite easily once you've got some of the feathers off.
- To pluck, take the bird and use your thumb and forefinger to pull out a few feathers at a time. Don't do too many at once or you could tear the skin. Work over the breast and back, tail, legs and wings. Cut off the wing tips, head and neck with poultry shears/strong kitchen scissors. Cut carefully through the crop just above the breast - the bird may have a bit of food stored here, but if it does just rinse it off.
- To gut the bird, use a knife/shears to make a small slit in the skin between the tail of the bird and the point of the breastbone. Wearing rubber gloves, push your fingers inside the cavity and pull out the offal  then wash the bird and treat it like a chicken.

So is there a recipe for twinks? I really want to Google it!!!! Can I resist? OK, I just did it and wish I hadn't. I was hoping there would be a recipe option on there, so who's going to help out?Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...:D:D

Some fantastic tips on here!1
Some of mine that I haven't seen so far:
As a treat, I buy fish off cuts from the fish mongers and roll them in the crumps that accumulate in the bottom of the toaster. The kids go wild for them! 'Mommas home made fish finger shapes' they calls em!
I have a neighbour who fills my car with vegetable oil for me in return for the odd favour. I pay him to get it from costco, he fills her up. I give him a favour.
When a yellow/green scrubber has lost the edge required in the kitchen, it gets sent to the bathroom and used as a body scrub. Thye're too harsh out the packet, but with a bit of wear and tear, they're perfect!
