Sneaky ways to save the pennies

Probably too late to be of help to the original poster but I freeze stale bread and when required, I use it for toast, toasted sandwiches/toasties or better still (in my opinion), bread and butter pudding.
At school we were taught to make cheese pudding, which is in effect, a savoury bread and butter pudding, ie soak bread with the egg mix and incorporate grated cheese and paprika. Very tasty if you like cheese. Today's version could also incorporate chillies, or even veg I suppose.
Great site, keep it up. :T

I mix breadcrumbs with grated cheese and put on top of cauli cheese, lasagnes etc.0

I take it from your signon name, and your avatar, that you are an expert on teeth in some way?
I have done the no rinse for years BUT first of all I floss and rinse and then use a brush and toothpaste. Haven't needed any fillings etc for years:D0 -
When making things like risotto I use packet dried veg (yes bad I know) but at 44p a packet it contains:- carrots, peas, celeriac, onion amongst other things. I usually find that quarter a packet plus some bits of chicken stripped off the carcass is plenty in risotto and much cheaper (plenty to feed 4). I always cook it in with the rice and add half a Tesco Value stock cube.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J0

It's not bad at all, it's goodI use basic cup a soups in my stews etc, it pads out food cheaply.
I'm going to try it with chicken pieces in the slow cooker. Thanks :TI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

I assume this tastes nice or you wouldn't keep using it but do you know if the dried veg counts towards your 1 a day? I've never even thought about dried veg but I guess I can see the value of it if it tastes ok & counts towards the 1 a day, more concerned for the childrens sake than mine lol.

it does count to one of your five a day, and yes it does taste nice.
The children weren't too sure at first about risotto so I made this variation:-
enough rice for 4, quarter the packet of dried veg and half a stock cube cooked for 10 mins. Meanwhile in a pan gently heat a can of chopped tomatoes, dash of garlic, black pepper. Once rice is ready, put in into the tomato mixture and stir through for a minute or two.
Costs (for 4 portions)
rice (I use Tesco Value 1Kg for 79p) = 26p (I use 70-80g per person)
dried veg = 11p
chopped tomatoes = 19p
drop of garlic oil = 1p
black pepper = 1p
plus whatever small pieces of meat I use (chicken, beef etc)

Might have to see about getting some & seeing if the children would eat it. I tend to use a lot of veg & we grow some ourselves (great money saver btw). I'll let you know how i get on.

A few pennies saved tonight.
I was alone in the house and pottering about outside: dead-heading, sweeping, watering, etc. Suddenly it was 9.20 and I came in. It had been light enough to potter outside but it was very dark inside. I had therefore saved probably over an hour of lighting by being outside.
I do this in winter too - set the heating to come on a bit later whilst I do a few outside tasks.Doing voluntary work overseas for as long as it takes .......
My DD might make the odd post for me0
