I have found a bit of info on egg substitutes, I haven't tried any of these yet, but the person who gave them to me assures me they work. Thought they might be of interest on 2 counts, money saving (of course!!) and for those of us who would prefer not to use eggs for any reason. I am very lucky in that there is a free range egg farm a couple of hundred yards down the road AND they only cost £1.60 a dozen! So I can use lovely free range eggs, and save money at the same time - although I will def be trying some or all of these

    the tip sheet says:-
eggs are used to bind a dish and, when whipped, may also incorporate air making a cake or pudding very light. Many recipes can be adapted using one of the suggestions below.

instead of 1 egg you can use
1 tbsp gram (chick pea) flour or soya flour and 1 tbsp water
1 tbsp arrowroot, 1 tbsp soya flour and 2 tbsp water
2 tbsp flour, 1/2 tbsp shortening, 1/2 tsp baking powder and 2 tbsp water
50g tofu blended with the liquid portion of the recipe
    1/2 large banana, mashed

    tips on raising agents
    use self raising flour
add extra oil and raising agent (eg baking powder)
use about 2 heaped tsp baking powder per cake
instead of baking powder use 3/4 tsp bicarb and 1 dssp cider vinegar (good for chocolate cakes)
try sieving the flour and dry ingredients, then gently folding in the liquid to trap the air

    alternative binding agents
    soya milk
    soya dessert
    custard
    mashed banana
    plain silken tofu
    soya cream
sweet white sauce (soya milk, vegan marg, sugar and cornflour)
    agar agar

Eg for a pancake batter, use 115 g flour, 55g soya flour, 375 ml milk and 2 tsp veg oil

We were on holiday in a hot climate for the last two weeks. I perspired a LOT! What amazed me is that clothes that I had worn didn't smell at all. I was showering in tepid water twice a day, sometimes with a small amt of shower gel and sometimes i just got in and rinsed down to feel fresh again. I presume the difference is that when the weather is so warm the perspiration evaporates quickly and doesn't give bacteria a chance to get going.

I don't have much hair at all, I quite often just rinse my head off, as it's easily irritated by detergents.

I think we all worry about smelling, don't we? Let's face it, it's a bit of a social crime. I know that I hate being with anyone that is whiffy!

6 FR eggs are around £1.27 but for baking dried egg is 99p for a tub equivalent to 10 eggs.

I now squash my toilet rolls, decant handwash into foam dispensers, decant bodywash and shower gel into handwash dispensers, use mircofibre cloths and mix my persil with soda crystals :j. I've just bought some white vinegar and bicarb of soda to clean my drains (I think), and I'm collecting fruit nets for cleaning. Now I just need to know the best way to get my slate floor to clean itself.

I've found a local farm that sells 12 free range eggs for £1.30! It's a help yourself system - you take the eggs and put the money in a slot. I love the fact that this still works in this day and age!
I also run our local Freecycle site and am daily amazed at what's given away. We've just decided to clear some of our garden to make way for a veggie plot (in the full spirit of sneaky ways of course). I put an 'offered' ad on Freecycle for free plants if you come and dig them out and two lovely ladies came over, took what they wanted, helped us pull out everything else, came back the next day to take away the rubbish and have promised plants for my new veg plot when I'm ready! It's saved us days of hard labour and trips to the tip!

Thank you to you all - I am a fairly new to the site but am really impressed. I have a seven page document of brilliant ideas. Thank you again!

I have recently bought my own place. Very expensive! I learned a huge amount from my parents and have brought these ideas to my new home with me.
    * Shop at asian supermarkets. My mum buys big sacks of rice as uses rice regularly. Many of these supermarkets have fantastic deals on dried pulses and I regularly buy these. I can get 5 packs of pitta bread for £1 and 3 pots of plain yoghurt for £1. Great!
    * Use a pressure cooker - it cooks pulses and other food really quickly
    * Grate ginger/chillies/garlic and freeze in small blocks - they are great for using in curries when you are in a rush.
    * Cook some extra rice and re-fry it with some vegetables and spices the following day for a quick tasty meals.
    * Freeze vegetables before they go off.
    * Add some frozen broccoli to pasta as it is boiling. It goes towards your five a day which is very useful when you are just using a jar of sauce!
    * Go through the cupboards and freezer regularly to use stuff up. It's amazing what you have bought - try not to throw food away.
    * Put a hot water bottle in the bed before you get in. No need for an electric blanket or to have the heating on. You can also use your OH - mine still lives with his folks so it's great when he stays - he's a central heating system in himself.
    * Use thermal lining for curtains - this made a massive difference to my flat.
    * Keep doors closed - this keeps the heat in.

I'm sure that there are more but I can't think of them now. Keep the ideas coming. They're brilliant!!

Rather than throw away almost a whole loaf of bread i have made it into bread crumbs.

Can anyone tell me what i can do with them apart from making chicken nuggets and breaded mushrooms please  .

Can they be used for bulking something or other out?

    Thank you
    rigs

Probably too late to be of help to the original poster but I freeze stale bread and when required, I use it for toast, toasted sandwiches/toasties or better still (in my opinion), bread and butter pudding.
