I hate the washing up, I really do (because it makes my hands dry, don't mind it otherwise). Maybe one day I'll win the lottery, and buy a dishwasher lol. I've been putting Hemp Cream on at night time. But, well, nothing works long term.
Basically I hate this season too, my hands aren't too bad in the summer, but in the winter, they are dry, rough, scaly and covered in blood patches. They are truly embarrassing. I'm literally at the end of my tether nowI'm 36, but my hands look like they belong to an 80 year old
My hands are a lot better now. I started to use my Marigolds again, and put my Hemp Cream and Cotton Gloves on every night. Seems to be working, hooray. I thoroughly, do NOT recommend Persil Washing Up Liquid. I think it caused my knuckles to bleed. And it was Very Painful.0 -
I recently made some whipped shea butter (click my username to find my blog where I give more info) and this has really helped my skin. I use it on my face and hands also, very gentle and the only thing I need now is to find out how I can make a proper facial moisturiser from shea butter so it's not as thick consistency as the one I have made.MFW #185

Hi EagerLearner, and everyone else
I'm slowly trying to build up a little collection of natural products (creams, oils, essential oils, etc..) and my current 'want' is shea butter. This is one of the threads that came up whilst searching, so I browsed it. I usually try to read a thread thoroughly before posting, but I confess that I haven't fully read this one. I'm not really interested in expensive names and brands, and unlike most of you, I seem to be fairly lucky in that I don't have any skin problems. It seems to be getting dryer as I get older, but nothing really to worry about.
Anyway, I noticed your post, and just felt that I had to comment on aqueous cream.
I bought a couple of pots a while back. First, a small one to see if I liked it, then a ginormous one (500g - from Asda I think) after I'd used some of the small one. The first (smaller) did NOT have SLS in it, but I stupidly assumed the second would be the same and bought it, only later realising that that one DID have SLS in it.
I couldn't remember what the smaller one was, but after a bit of searching, I'm pretty sure this was the one. As you can see from the ingredients, no nasties.
So my point is, you can use aqueous cream, but just make sure you check the ingredients and get one that has no nasties in it. It's pretty cheap too.
Whilst I'm at it, I'll second the comment someone made about vaseline. If you smear it on your hands and feet before bed, and wear gloves and socks, the results are lovely :T
The stuff I've got is actually 'Yellow Soft Paraffin BP', (big 500g pot) which I think is the same thing...? Haven't really checked tbh, but seems the same to me.. It was prescribed to my little boy as he had/s eczema, which is rather mild now: more like dry skin.. Only put cream on him occasionally now, and even less often, oilatum in their bath.0 -
Thanks Hannoja, seems there are two types and anyone wanting to get some should def buy the one without SLS, if they can.
I love the shea butter personally and it feels like it may do the same results as the paraffin etc. My main bugbear is that I want to use an effective product but I know paraffin is essential refined petrol... and every time I see a tub I just think of petrol glugging into my skin! xMFW #185

I too have dry skin and use aqueous cream or double base. The aqueous cream is cheap.Even though the double base is more expensive it lasts ages. Both work really well for me.
