Thanks for this info :) I shall try it.

I received a couple of Eucerin samples in the post this morning, I shall try them out later before I go to bed. Face cream, and foot cream.

EagerLearner, as I said on the other thread I'd like to see the evidence that SLS is harmful to health. Did you have a look at Snopes.com and some of the links posted on there?

    http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/household/shampoo.asp

Where is the evidence for the claims you make about damage to the heart, liver and brain?

If aqueous cream is so bad, why is it recommended by dematologists and other health professionals?

Hi Geri - the claims are not 'mine'... I don't know much about it, it's just what I found on a site by searching on Google. I am learning about it too. The site was:
    http://www.health-report.co.uk/sodium_lauryl_sulphate.html

Over the weekend I looked at Palmers, Vaseline ingredients etc and most beauty products seem to have paraffin/petrol derivatives in some form or another... maybe it is a good thing if so many use it?

Well, I think the fact that they have been used for years without any apparent ill effects must count for something.

I think when using Google it's always an idea to keep an open mind, and think about the reasons why people say what they do and what vested interests they might have.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I have only skimmed through this thread, so apologies if I am repeating someone, but I have suffered dry skin all my life and have finally found that the best thing (which has also completely banished my son's eczema and cracked hands) is VASELINE. Cheap as chips. I put it all over at night time, especially on hands and feet, often put gloves and/or socks on to keep it all on my skin and wake up soft and fresh in the morning.

I have spent a small fortune on loads of other products, all of which eventually sting in the end.

    Vaseline rocks!
    That's Numberwang!

Hi Geri - thanks for your thoughts on how to use Google, each to their own I guess - Vaseline works for the above poster for example.

I would endorse what Rachie B says about the Boots Expert range. I'm over 50, have had eczema on my body since I was a baby, but only had problems with my face for the past ten years or so, when I started getting spots and red patches.. Dermatologist said it was combination of acne and eczemaicon9.gif (so hard to choose right products). Long courses of antibiotics clear it, but then it comes back. Anyway, I have tried loads of different lotions and potions, but even the ones that seemed to work stopped helping/caused problems after a couple of months. So far I have not found that with the Boots Expert range - and it's affordable tg, so can buy the whole regime. I use their 'Sensitive' cleansing and toning wipes to remove make-up, but 'Anti Blemish' everything else ie cleansing foam, toner, serum, moisturisers, even use their 'scrub and mask' sometimes. I find them surprisingly gentle and effective. hth.
  • I've been using Hemp Hand Cream from the Body Shop, and it's brilliant. I use it at night time, wake up the next morning, and miraculously my hands are beautiful, hooray. :) It absorbs into the skin nicely too :)

I thoroughly recommend it, bit expensive, but it's a Big tube though.

**Bump** - any more ideas folks? I ended up buying the Clarins gentle dry/sensitive cleanser on ebay that I can wash off... I got it quite cheap considering what 200ml normally costs.

  • I don't find Boots Expert Sensitive Lotion moisturising enough and it still gives me a slight tingle (although I always use it to thin down my foundation) - I didn't know there was a cream version, I'll have to give it a try.

At the moment, I'm using Eucerin Q10 for sensitive skin. It's yellowy and thick, reminds me of butter. Wish it were cheaper though. My skin seems to love it. No redness or slight burning after putting it on like I get with everything else

I use the cream at night (just their normal day version 'cos it was all I could get) and the 'fluid' in the morning. So far so good... still on the hunt for a cheaper alternative though.

I tried Lidl's iseree (the sensitive one) - it's not bad - a slight tingle, but nothing major... but it doesn't really feel like it's moisturising me much
