    hello

i am a new user so please stick with me. i posted a thread earlier which only lasted 2 hours! it was about a new product i have started using for my Eczema and dry skin. the thread got taken off as apparently it wqas suggested it was an advert..

i can assure everybody that i am just a normal person who was trying to help others. as i have suffered for years with it, i know how frustrating it can be.

Hi all and thanks for the informative replies - in terms of my red patches I am pretty sure it's the red wine on weekends.... which then takes a couple of days to go... so no cure as I can't give it up! But really it isn't that noticeable to anyone except me kind of thing!

Funny you should say this, but I used get this sometimes too - I'm pretty certain it was largely down to dehydration, so now I make sure I drink a couple of pints of water before I go to bed (downside is I normally have to get up at some point to go to the loo) and I very rarely get it now.

Your skin sounds very similar to mine. I've used Avene before - they do a range specifically aimed at tackling redness and that was ok. Oilatum skin repair cream is good to put on at night. I found that rose oil based products work the best for me though, and whatever I try I always come back to Barefoot Botanicals Rosa Fina day cream, which isn't cheap but lasts ages as it's quite rich, and the Barefoot Botanicals SOS cream, which is cheaper:

Neal's Yard frankincense cream nourishing cream is also good, which I used to use until I started using the Rosa Fina.

Jojoba oil should be fine to use on your face at night, but I'd recommend a rose facial oil - I use Herbfarmacy's at the moment, which is £16.50 but it lasts for ages as you only need tiny amount.

    Hope some of that helps.

Hi all and welcome to any newbies!

GFN & JudgeJaq thanks for the advice - GFN, PM me and we can chat!

Judgejaq, luckily I work for an ethical bottled water company, so I drink plenty of the stuff - so I am left with the red wine culprit... will look out for the rose oil though...

I have just received my goat milk cleanser, exfoliator and moisturiser and am happy so far. The exfoliator is just gorgeous and seems good enough to eat, so luxurious. The cleanser is good too although will have to use it some more to see if it really is any good. The moisturiser seems ok although maybe I did something wrong as skin felt a bit tight, I think I will only use it with cotton pads rather than water and see if that helps.

Now just need a rose facial toner/rosewater and rose oil for overnight according to advice on here...

MrsJ2008 - I have the same problem - I use shea butter (L'Occitaine) on my hands at home and, this one at work:
    http://www.laughingbird-bodycare.co.uk/products.php?id=4

However, at works my hands seem dry, so I have stopped using that Laughing Bird one. Maybe it's the (natural?) alcohol in it.

I only feel better when I do my weekly homemade olive oil and brown or white sugar mix, which exfoliates and really feels nice. But that's not handy on the bus...

Thanks JudgeJaq, those products look lovely! However, pricey... Healing Hands Aromatherapy on ebay seem to have a Rose toner, would that be helpful do you think? I know that on an oil overnight it's prob not worth scrimping, however, i just wonder what the difference between the different rose 'types' are... Moqueta? Moroccan? There seem to be various types svailable from all sorts of places... don't want to buy the wrong one! I'll bet GFN has some info in her special book!

    Hi guys

My sister has the most dry hands ive ever seen in my life and she has started using Eucerin hand cream (around £9) and what an improvement its made from first application! Im guessing their face creams will be good too.

I dont have particularly dry skin but i absolutely love St Ives Whipped Silk intensive body moisturiser its around £4 a bottle and quite often buy one get one free in Superdrug. Oh and i also love Elizabeth Arden 8 hour hand cream which is really good.

Also coconut oil is a fantastic moisturiser - you can buy a huge tub in holland & barrett for a tenner. A little greasy to put on if your rushing out the door in the morning maybe but great for after a bath at night!

    Hope that helps x

Thanks Mandy & welcome to the thread! Eucerin has been mentioned a few times now so that's a good sign.

How about we start a format for these posts to help folks reading it? I will start with this example:

    My completed example:

My skin type: Dry with some occasional blemishes
What I'd like to solve: Tightness on face/body after washing, smoother skin with no redness
Area of body: All over but face in particular
Products that have worked: Clarins Comfort facial cleanser and multiactive day cream moisturiser; Goat milk based exfoliator for my face; Crabtree & Evelyn chamomile based body cream (so light and whipped, delightful); Jojoba oil massaged into face once per week.
My favourite product & why: So far the Clarins multiactive day cream as well absorbed and feels quality
Rating out of 10 (10 for Amazing!): 9/10 (due to price)
My least favourite product & why: Boots sensitive moisturiser for dry skin (pink lid) - too liquid and 'thin' feeling
Rating out of 10 (1 for Awful!): 3/10 (but was only £2.50)

Weleda do a rose range - I haven't tried it myself but they do a toner for 6.95. I was thinking of trying it actually. You could maybe contact them via the website and see if they could send some samples.

Re the rosa fina range - still a bit on the expensive side, but this website has the toner and face oil a bit cheaper and you get a free lip balm- they're a really good company as well.

I'm using Herbfarmacy rose oil - its 16.50 but it's lasted me months. Neals Yard rose facial oil seems to have good reports, again around the same price but 50mls, which will last ages. I had Great Elm Physick oil to test a while back (just a small amount but again lasted ages). That was fab but its over £20!

The goats milk products sound interesting though - might have to investigate there.
  • Hi everyone :hello:

I too have dry sensitive skin and have spent a fortune trying to find the perfect cream without parabens etc. I found organic rosehip oil very good and after using it a while it seemed to balance out my dryness, a £9 bottle of it lasted ages, I didn't like the oily look after putting it on though in summer so it may be better to use at night.

At the moment i'm using jurlique day cream mixed mixed with their calendula cream, its been great for the winter. A bit lighter for summer Lavere organic Hydro Sensation Energy Cream was good.

Thanks for the tip about clarins, hopefully I can get a few samples to try

Just to add i've tried the rosa fina moisturiser mentioned, lots of good things in it, but it looks like they have changed the recipe as mine had carrot oil in it and I used to look a bit orange until I rubbed it in lol. The weleda rose moisturiser was ok, I got quite a bit as it was reduced, but I prefer some of the others i've tried.

From memory... rosa mosqueta is actually rosehip seed oil. It is well known to reduce scarring & is very nourishing, but whenever I have used it on it's own it has not been rich enough, but underneath a cream moisturiser it is excellent for skin. You can buy it from Neal's Yard (big bottle about £12) which is the most cost effective place I have found it so far.

Rose absolute is widely used for dry & mature skin, & there are different types. It is a very expensive oil which is why the creams are so pricey. The Barefoot Herbs people I linked to previously do a rose absolute cream for £8. The lady who makes all the creams is a qualified herbalist, so may be worth emailing for advice? The plus side is they are locals & I remember the guy who ran the stall & he was so helpful.

Anyway, I'm rambling again & currently ignoring my poor OH! I will return to this thread & fill in the Q&A as well :)

(Will pm you in the week EL)
Proud to be a moneysaver :)
