I've just checked for jobs locally and there aren't any at the moment, however, they only pay £6.46 an hour in our area and this is only just above the minimum wage.
    Don't mess with pensioners.

At least one of the big teaching unions is 'working to rule', urging its members to not invigilate exams as its not directly related to contractual teaching duties, so there should be more vacancies.

Our local school exams are only run by the invigilators without any teacher involvement at all.
Jan exams may now be covered, but if you're interested for the next set of exams you could get an idea of what's required by going along to an exam or two.

Contact the examinations officer for your local school for any advice.

Some areas pay more than the minimum wage, and senior invigilators will get more, depending on what roles they take on.

I had a scribing and reading test as part of my interview. They do provide you with training if you are taken on. I thought I still had a copy of the job description saved, but I've obviously deleted it. If you look online though, you will probably be able to find more - there is a guidance for hiring exam invigilators that has been posted by one of the regulatory bodies.
Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.

  • Sorry to post on an old thread but having looked through and found some very useful information on interviews for exam invigilators, I wondered if anyone was able to help me. I have an interview but am quite worried as it involves a group interview, a written test and a group discussion (in total about 2 hours) which seems excessive for the job. Has anyone else experienced this? I have never had a group interview or group discussion and am really not sure what to expect.

    Thanks.

Possibly they are hoping to recruit several invigilators and are killing many birds with one stone? Maybe they want to see how everyone interacts - invigilators are part of a team, after all.

    Good luck.
