Thanks to all for replies. One question if anyone can help. Would my employers need to know if i go on a DMP and could i lose my job.
Will try and get to bed soon so will check in again later tomorrow when no one is around. night all take care

Im sure your employers will not need to know and it shouldnt affect your job. You have a surplus however small so CCCS can help.

    Good luck.

Thanks for all the advice. I have done a lot of thinking today. My best bet is a DMP so will contact them on monday. I need to sort out a new bank account as i have a loan , overdraft and cc with Lloyds tsb. Can anyone recommend one where i might be able to keep a debit card.I am still panicking a bit about if something goes wrong with my car (i really need it for work) or say a large appliance if you aren't allowed any credit how would i be able to repair or replace. i know they allow you a certain amount each month for stuff like that but it would take forever to try and save a decent amount. Any advice please as i havent any family to help out.
  • Hey Lostalot, I can't ofer any actual help, (there are enough clever folk on here to do that) but I can offer all the support and hugs you ever want. Keep your chin up sweetheart, we'll get you there ok?

There is a list of basic accounts (some of which have debit cards) HERE and HERE.

There are also a lot of people on DMPs on this forum.

The DMP Mutual Support Thread is good if that turns out to be the way to go. Plenty of support there from people in the same boat.

    Hi Hunni,
Rayday knows loads and is very good at all this self doing DMP lark.
I have to second what she says about re-addressing the balance.
Just for one min think how much easier and worry free your life would be without having to find all the debt re-payments, living only within your means, not running up anything else? A DMP allows you to do this as WELL as paying back what you owe. I owe far too much and I still try not to think about it, but finding £179 pcm and not the £600 I was is like a picnic, ( not saying its easy but a lot easier than it was before. I will pay back everything I owe that I am sure of, but in the mean time not worrying about how im going to feed the kids this week is such a weight of my mind, I am now sleeping better also.
Hang in there, now is the time to draw a line under this and get the help you need and your life back.
Please get yourself some help and make it your mission for Monday morning, I can remember the day my life changed it was when mbna put interest up to 24% I decided things HAD to change, that night I didnt sleep much and was on the phone at 8am the following day talking to cccs! Its not an ideal situation but you only have one and currently due to cc payments you are more than likly living in relative poverty! Which is not fair on you or the kids and unnecessary in this day and age.
Debt free and plan on staying that way!!!!

    Thanks
could anyone give me a rough idea of how long it took to set up their DMP.I am a bit worried about the phone calls as my ex calls in most days to see the children and a friend is here a lot. I don't really want anyone to know about my problem due to the embarrasement of explaining it all. I know that sounds a bit daft and i should talk to them about it but i cant at the moment. I feel so low in myself i dont think i could deal with it.
  • I don't know the ins and outs of length of time to set up one, however there are ways of stopping phonecalls. One of the simplest is to change it and then re give out to family etc. Never give your work no to the companies and request everything to be put in writing-easier for both sides really and no mistaking what has been said on phone. Others have suggsted choose to refuse as well.
Everyone reaches rock bottom, there is only one way up now and that is up. look at some of the other posts and you will see that there is a bit of a path, but folk seem much happier when the burden is lifted. With working two jobs you must be very tired, as well as being a parent-its never easy.
Another poster called pania has a self managed dmp and works in the finance industry, i am sure she wouldnt mind if you pmd her and asked.
All the best with this - everyone here will support you.

I know how you feel when your head is full of what if's. What if the washing machine breaks or the car. It is hard to focus on any one thing when you have hundreds of things racing in you head. Don't be ashamed of your situation luv. You are not the first and I'm sure you will not be the last. In fact, I bet that you have some people close to you that may be in the same boat!

Have you tried writing down all your concerns, not only financial, but the fears in your life. It helps me to put things straight in my mind, and may do the same with you.

Deal with what needs to be done today and try not to worry about tomorrow or next week/month/year.

Alliance and leicester have a current account with a debit card. You apply online and it comes with a savings account. It also trades through the Post Office so the branches are many.

Take care sweetie. You can do this. :A

Just to say Good Luck, I've a key account with RBS with comes with a solo card which I can use everywhere. No overdraft or cheque book but that's fine by me. I'm with CCCS but thinking of going alone, scary!
Why didn't someone kick me up the backside earlier:mad:

I'm not sure if anyones mentioned this to you but try Freecycle for household equipment if any of yours packs up. theres lots of info about them on this site if you do a search, but they are basically local networks who offer stuff they don't want free. you usually need to collect but the cost of a van/carrier is cheaper than buying new. my local one often has washing machines, microwaves, old cookers etc.

not sure about the car, this is one we're starting to worry about here as well, although I don't mind having a rubbish looking car as long as it goes!
someone else might come up with something though.
    good luck[/quote]
