    sorry,local networks sounds silly!
what I meant was, people in your area who advertise stuff they don't want on their online freecycle board, or ask for stuff that they do want and someone else might have laying about. no payment is allowed and they do prefer it if you offer stuff as well as ask for it. (but the strangest things seem to get offered and taken, so one mans rubbish is another mans treasure)

    Hi lostalot,

Read your thread this morning, CCCS are quick at setting up DMP but really down to you to return documents required ASAP. The quicker you do this the sooner the DMP can be started. Mine starts 1st April, from initial contact with them to confirmation of DMP was approx. 2 weeks. As regards employer knowing it isn't necessary. I agree with boredofbeingathome, don't give out mobile/work number and request contact via letter only. I have had some contact from creditors but just tell them you're setting up DMP with CCCS and they'll be making contact. At first it's daunting but you get used to dealing with it. Best advice I can give in this regard is contact them before they contact you. I called Egg and the guy on the other end of the phone couldn't have been more helpful! There are obviously exceptions (LTSB) but that's life!!! Contact CCCS asap and start to regain control of your finances. I totally understand what you are going through but it is a great feeling to know that someday you'll owe nothing and what's yours is yours!!!!
With regards to bank account I used Cooperative, that was also quick and easy to do. In the mean time send token payments as alrady suggested and cancel any DD's you have for payments to non-priority creditors.

    Best of luck!

    Hi there
You were worrying about buying large appliances with no credit facilities if you went on a DMP. Well our washing machine packed up just after christmas. We went on our local freecycle group at www.freecycle.org and found a washing machine going free on there. All it cost us was the petrol to go and get it. It is a better machine than the one that packed up!!! So there is ALWAYS a way to get these things. It is just a question of thinking outside of the box.

Just to say hi & welcome & send a big hug. Not sure about basic bank acccounts but think coop have one and you'll need some form of ID - usually 3 bits of id so utility bills, drivers iscence etc? Prob a good idea to get an account that you can easily access on a practical level?
Hope you ring cccs today...pepys on here have said in the past that they wish they'd done it ages ago & that its been life changing for them! Re a dmp affecting your job it depends what you do for a living - I know for instance that if youre an accountant it can be an issue because youre advsing people on money...What do you do for work?
Hang in there & remember that you are surrounded by people who understand the gut wrenghing, sickening place that you are in now & as a collective we WILL beat the debts! Huge hugs for you. Keep posting and while its hard now remember that you are taking control of your money rather than it controlling you! The relief will be immense!

    Hi Lostalot,

Just read your post re bank account. Try applying online with Co-operative bank. They do checks but firstly they try to verify all applicants electronically, if they can't do this then they will ask for paper proof. I did this and had no problems at all, also had overdraft with LLoyds. Worth giving it a try!

Let us know how you get on with application and CCCS.

I got a basic account with Coop after trying several other banks and getting turned down. I was honest with coop said I was starting DMP and got basic account with electron debit card no cheque book and no overdraft. get an account as soon as possible because Lloyds will take out any missed payments from your account even if you stop the DDs. They are most unhelpful. CCCS are brilliant so make sure you talk to them pronto. As regards phone calls from creditors they will phone even if you ask them not to. It is embarrasing in front of others so either take your phone off the hook whille others are there or change your number. Some creditors will phone several times a day but if you tell them you are setting up a DMP with CCCS and then put the phone down eventually they leave you alone. you should be prepared for LLOyds being very difficult but the more you deal with them the stronger you will get. remember they dont know who you are they are just phoning through a whole list of peole in the same position as you.You may also get letters which threaten all sorts of nasty things most of which are rubbish. Once your dmp is set up and running things usually settle down and you will feel a great weight lifted. As others have said dont worry too much about replacing things which break down one ofthe reasons we are all in debt is using credit for such things in the first place. CCCS allow you a sensible amount to live on and it is possible budget for most things.Good luck and let us know how you get on
