    Hi pam2802

I make my bread by hand and it has never failed me (famous last words :p )
    1. 300ml warm water
    2. 14g fresh yeast
    3. 500g white bread flour (i use lidls ;) )
    4. 3tsp salt -sounds a lot but its perfect :D
    • mix the yeas and water
    • mix the flour and salt
    • pour the liquid into the flour,
    • mix to a soft dough (put the bowl in the sink to save mess:p )
    • cover the bowl with a crrier bag and allow to prove-I sometimes leave it all day -the longer and slower it proves the tastier and better texture you get
    • tip it out and shape...stick in a 2lb loaf tin (oiled)
    • cover with carrier -like a tent and leave until about 2-3" above the top of the tin
    • stick in a preheated oven -gas 7 until golden on top
    • to check if its done -tip it out and knock on the bottom and it should sound hollow
It makes a nice crusty loaf..if you like it softer use part milk and part water.
It won't keep as well as bread with fat in -but i slice n freeze it so it doesn't matter -but you can add a spoon of butter/marge/oil

hope that helps :D if you need any more help with it -just yell ;)

Just a quick post to say I've raided Asda on the way home from work and my spend now stands at £39.09. This included £5.70 for a food flask so that OH can take soup or noodles (he's very partial to Aldi's) to work. OH has been temping since being made redundant last summer and is now on his second week out of work again. However he has another temp job to start next Monday and two interviews tomorrow. The trouble is when he is out of work for a short time the insurance doesn't pay out on the mortgage (need 30 days claiming) so it's a good job I have some back pay in the savings a/c:eek:

Off to try my hand at leek and potato soup so I'll sign off.

Well not an ideal start - went to Tesco's for milk and spent £11.83  . Have got some friends coming round for wine and nibbles tomorrow night. Have plenty of wine but no nibbles and Mr T had lots of bogof on doritos and dips. Also treated myself to a couple of mags - my treat since DH is away with work this week so I'm on my own.
So little money - so much time
  • Have been to Aldi and Mr M's this morning. £6.51 in Aldi for 49p fine beans and lettuce, strawb plants, seeds and a couple of othe bits and bobs. £12.98 went to Mr M's for milk, yogs, F&V and othe bits including cous cous. I saw their own brand mediterranean tomato cous cous for 55p per 2 person serving. On the other side of the aisle was 500g pack of cous cous for 55p, all I need to do is add the flavourings  . Any ideas folks  .

Tesco's do a cous cous seasoning, if you go onto Tesco.com you can take a look. It is spelt wrong so finding it is not easy, they have spelt it - Tesco Meditrncous Cous Seasoning 110g and costs £1.25. I haven't tried it myself as I still have lots of Ainsley Harriot's Spice Sensation cous cous that I take to work for lunch (it was on offer at Iceland £1 per box and 3 sachets per box, I eat 1/2 sachet for lunch - about 17p per day for lunch :money: )

I may be trying it when my current stash runs out.

  • Hi Weezl
Of course I'm happy to share!!!
    Recipe for Glamorgan sausages:
    Serves 4
    Ingredients:
    1 medium onion, finely chopped
    6oz (175g) Cheddar cheese, grated
    10oz (300g) fresh breadcrumbs
    3 eggs beaten
    Fresh breadcrumbs for coating
    Salt and Pepper
2 tablespoons of olive oil for frying
Optional: pinch of dried sage/ pinch of mustard powder
    Method:
    1. Mix together the onion, cheese, breadcrumbs, most of egg, salt and pepper (if desired: pinch of dried sage/mustard powder). Divide the mixture into 12 pieces and roll each portion into a small sausage shape.
    2. Place breadcrumbs on large plate. Coat each sausage shape with remaining egg and then press on coating of crumbs.
    3. Heat about an inch of oil in a large saucepan (I don't use that much). Fry sausages for 5-7 minutes, turning quickly, until golden. Drain on kitchen paper and serve hot (or cold)
    Can cook from frozen.

    hi all,

Had a trip into York for meeting today so had a bit of a mooch round the 'cheap shops' whilst I was there;) .

Spent £4.04 in poundstretcher (where i bought lots of tinned cream to make ice-cream. going to have a go tomorrow so if anyone has an easy recipe please share:D ),
£4.86 in Netto where I got 6 pks of crumpets whoops to 20p a pack :T and some seeds for 25p per pack or 5 for £1 (if anyone is looking for some these are the cheapest I've seen - they also had grow bags 2 for £1.80 which I think is very good?!)
and £1.38 for wipes in Homebargains (where they also had tetley and typhoo t-bags at less than 1p per bag)

Don't think I updated my sig for last spend to will have to check what that was and then will update - must get more milk later too....
