Hi all, can anyone suggest something for the remains of my sunday roast? I'm sure I saw something recently but running out of lunch break time in which to search... I thought maybe stew and dumplings? Anyone got a (simple!) dumpling recipe handy?MrT delivering later today so will update sig when I know the total.Thanksxx
I have done this in the past. Chop up beef into smaller pieces, and add mushrooms, onion, carrots and a stock cube and water to cover. I usually do this in a pan-but you can do in oven or slow cooker. Bring to boil, then simmer for about an hour. I then cheat and add a bit of gravy powder to thicken add colour- also season to taste. Boil potatoes and mash. You can have peas or other veg with it and pour over top. scrummy.
I have also done in oven with dumplings or made into a pie, and served with veg. It just depends on the amount of time you have. BOB XX

I didn't think I was doing too well so far (overspent in Aldi last week). Then I had an order from Sainsbugs at the weekend but it was late so got a £10 voucher, had problems with some items so get another £10 voucher too. So that should even things up again nicely :D

Just doing my first weeks list on mysupermarket.com - does anyone else drive themselves mad looking for cheaper substitutes and alternatives. I don't even need to buy that much this week as the freezers full - the main bit being a chicken for roasting and some Quorn. and its still £30!!!

thanks bails, if I have a spending challenge update under this post - I've read and understood!
  • Nipped to Morrisons this morning in the middle of all my other rushing about, not somewhere i shop as we dont have one near home but i'd gone to sort out the new bathroom and there was one nearby.

£8.70 - got milk, bread, pack of turkey mince, salad and fruit. Off to update sig, i'm doubtful i'll manage to stick to budget this month, everything just seems so expensive lately :( Or maybe its because before i started doing these challenges i didn't keep that close an eye on what i spent

I've decided to go through my list of meals, look at how i make them now and where i could make changes/cut corners. Like the other day i made a chilli, i doubled everything except the meat and OH didn't notice :) daft that i've never done it before really :o seeing as i already do it for casserole and stew etc.

Am going to catch up on the thread now :)

My spend so far is now up to £125, but I have got full cupboards and a full fridge freezer :D

Hoping I don't have to part with much more this month.................
  • Have been to Aldi and Mr M's this morning. £6.51 in Aldi for 49p fine beans and lettuce, strawb plants, seeds and a couple of othe bits and bobs. £12.98 went to Mr M's for milk, yogs, F&V and othe bits including cous cous. I saw their own brand mediterranean tomato cous cous for 55p per 2 person serving. On the other side of the aisle was 500g pack of cous cous for 55p, all I need to do is add the flavourings  . Any ideas folks  .

I started today and have already spent £18.45 of my £20 target:eek:
I do want to look at it as being £80 per month though, and a lot of the food I've bought this week will be used into next week as well. Lidl had all of their meat reduced, so I picked up some chicken breasts (4 for £2.95) and 500g steak mince for £1.19. As there is only me, I should get about a weeks worth of meals out of that.
I did forget that I have a friend staying over this weekend, so he will need feeding, so whether or not I will have gone way over by the end of the week remains to be seen.
