    Evening All!:D

(Hope your hearing went ok Kitty)

For the first day of my May grocery challenge I managed to spend nothing.:j I got a chicken breast and a pork chop out the freezer this morning with the intention of doing a honey and mustard marinade only to find later I had no honey or mustard!! So I improvised and dug a jar of sweet chilli tomato chutney out of the back of the fridge, smeared a good dollop over the top of said breast and chop and topped with sliced cheese before chucking in the oven - YUMYUM - much nicer than my original idea and I didn't have to go to the supermarket where I would have been drawn into impulse buys as I always am. Tomorrow I need to buy fruit, crisps, salad and milk plus some cake and cereal bar ingredients as my BF's lunchbox goodies shelf in the freezer is looking low, so I MUST STICK TO MY LIST and not be naughty:p
  • 1st delivery of may just arrived is there no may thread started yet?

    Spent £110.15

now just got to keep everything to a basic as should only need fresh veg & fruit

may spend so far a whopping £225.25 £60 left for the month ooo errrr
    Still Trying :o

    £400/£000
  • I made some yummy HM bead today and added some linseeds. Lovely topped with real butter. Also did the cheapo trifle as before and made a sausage casserole from the bits n bobs I wanted to use up.

    Handfull of soupmix
    handfull of pearl barley
    2 onions
    some dried garlic
    two stock cubes
approx 3/4 pint of chicken stock(from the last carcass)(I froze the stock)
    2 tins plum tomatoes
    some mixed herbs
8 sausages(I cooked them first to get the excess fat off)-we hate fatty meals
a few new potatoes washed and sliced
    a few carrots

This, when cooked up was enough for eight meals. We ate 4 servings and froze the rest for another day. didnt realise it would make so much!
guessing at approx £2.40 so 30p per serving!!!
Annual Grocery budget 2018 is £1500 pa £125 calendar month £28.84 pw for 3 adults
  • I have a pint of single cream which I bought for 25p on its sell by date on Sunday, and is now on its use by date.

Any ideas? I would do a carbonara but don't have anything baconlike in the house. I have done a search on the forum but haven't been inspired. I only bought it cos there were loads of recipes I thought I could do, before realising they were all for double cream :o

Oh, by the way... in the name of using stuff up... I've just used up the end of a bottle of tonic water and the tail end of a lemon ;):D I might have had to open a new bottle of something else though :D
Well how about you make a rice pudding and use it in that? Or custard? Or in you coffee?

    Hi everyone :hello:

Just had my last delivery of the month. It came to £83.78, but I'm allocating £33 of that to next month's budget as it's store cupboard stuff that wont be used until May. So my total for April is £346.02/£350 :):j Thanks everyone for contributing to this great thread!! :T :kisses3: :T

My weekly average for April was £70. I'm gonna stick with this amount for May plus a bit extra cos its my birthday on the twelth so my May budget is £300 fingers crossed!!

I have a box where I put £3.10 a week for my car tax, otherwise it would never be paid! I have boxes for various things which I should be putting money in each week (about 9 of them) but over the past couple of months it's become impossible, so the car tax one is the only one I can keep up with atm.

Good idea, all of my annual stuff seems to happen at this time of year so I've now got my OH to set up an account on his online banking for it all. I've got a transfer going in from now on :) Thanks!

I have a dilemma ladies- DH spent £8.66 on me today for birthday cake and maltesers and a card. Now if I take that off I will have a really tight month for groceries so should I just ignore it?
I was good- he wanted to go and get a takeaway as it was late when people had left (6.30ish) and I'd not done tea- (I don't think he wanted to cook) but I had mince out already to make something with (one of my 8 portions of the 1kg mince from last month).
I didn't really fancy chinese anyway and knew we had stuff there so went and whipped up a spag bol using 100g cooked mince, 2lge tbsp porridge, 1 grated courgette, a bit of shredded cabbage from one of my 5p cabbages, 4 mushrooms which are getting a bit past it and a tin of tomatoes. It was lovely jubbly. It probably cost me less than £1.50 and there was a portion left over which I have managed to squeeze into a gap in the freezer. I still have flavoured chicken in the fridge defrosting from yesterday so will have that for tea tomorrow night.
Am I a misery guts for doing this when we are going out for a meal on Saturday to celebrate my birthday properly?
Anyway- I've JUST got my flaming Mother off the phone so I'm going to have a glass of wine to ease away the shock of not being in my 20's anymore!
I may even go and browse elsewhere and see if the May thread is up yet?

I think it's Pink or one of the mods that starts the thread as it needs to be a sticky. Pink has been on today but maybe she's forgot to start the new thread  I've sent a PM

    Happy Birthday Kaz :bdaycake:
