Ok, I'm going to declare, and the horror should help with next month's challenge!
    £386.47.
    Out of £250.

Oh well. Lots (and lots!) of that was take-away food, but that was included in the challenge, so I'm not going to deduct it. I did toy with having a separate budget for take-aways, but I don't think it will help, so I am, once again, going to aim for £250 for May's challenge, for two adults, one bump (still), including all food, snacks, take-aways, toiletries, and household stuff, starting from today. I'm going to nip to Tesco for a couple of bits, check if the flour's still 48p, and what's in the reduced section. I'm making pizzas for dinner and I'm going to try and work a meal plan.
I'm going to give birth soon, but seeing as I've gone to such trouble to save money with buying re-usable nappies and second-hand clothes, it would be very silly to waste all that on convenience food!

    Grocery Challenge: September: £1.75/£200
  • thank you SFT, i'm quite proud, esp given i made OH tell me his spending at work so i could include that in it.
i'm going to tell him it's only £125 this month and squirrel away the extra for our HMoon spends account!

    Afternoon all :D

A NSD for me today...well out of the grocery challenge anyway  had a walk to the garden centre and picked up a few more bits..i have an obsession with veg seeds  so gave in to the lure of some curly kale, yellow courgettes, some more reetboot and an oriental mix all of which i have just planted -well the first lot i have..have also potted up cucumbers too as they were getting too big for there little pots -but can't wait to get everything into place outside... so far everything is doing really well..fingers crossed everyone as im trying to grow allsorts so its gonna be trial n error this year

Forgot yesterday to declare the rice i got..I blame all of you ya know ;) Driving along telling hubby about rice shooting up in price and saying how im glad we don't use much..pop into ALDI and they had 4 x 150g pouches of boil in the bag in a box for 49c -about 37p:T ..so i still grabbed 4 boxes "just in case" :rotfl:
1 pouch is too much for 1 too mind hubby insists on tipping it out of its bag to cook  . But that seemed so cheap i really couldn't resist :o They also had boxes of pudding rice -so might pick up a couple of those next time im in there "just in case"..ready for winter :p

Superspam... I have made lahmachun.. using minced beef mind and hubbie loves them...a great weekend "snacky" meal...will add the recipe -just incase anyone wants a go.. i think they could soon be tweaked to suit most tastes..and think they would be a hit with children..... No veggies in sight and you eat them with your fingers ;)

    LAHMACHUN RECIPE
    makes 8
    pre-heat oven to 200c/400f/gas 6
    1. 1 cup water
    2. 2tbs olive oil
    3. 1tsp salt
    4. 2tsp honey
    5. 3 cups bread flour
    6. 1 tsp yeast
    7. 1 small onion -chopped finely
    8. 1tbs olive oil
    9. 1tsp mild chilli powder
    10. 1tsp ground cumin
    11. 200g minced beef
    12. 200g chopped tomatoes
    13. 2tbs fresh coriander -chopped (optional)
    14. seasoning to suit
    • place first 6 item in you BM in the order to suit
    • set to "dough" (i make my dough by hand so use about 14g fresh yeat)
    • Heat the oil in a frying pan, add onion and cook until soft
    • add chilli powder and cumin and cook for 1 minute
    • add mince and cook until browned-stirring all the time to break up the mince
    • add tomatoes and cook over a low heat to allow to reduce and thicken
    • add coriander and season then leave to cool
    • turn out the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead briefly
    • divide into 8 equal sizes
    • roll out to approx 12" round -making it as thin as you can
    • transfer the discs to lightly floured baking sheets
    • divide the meat mixture between the bases and spread thinly..leaving a 1/2" border
    • cook for 6-8 mins or until just golden around the edges
You can eat these hot or cold, and you basically roll them up to eat them like a tortilla

Right i had better get off and catch up with the goings on with the weight loss thread;)
have a great afternoon everyone :D

just been to mr T's this morning to get dog food and some veg. i spent £3.53, so as i'm not going shopping tomorrow, i'd like to declare my total at
    £226.36 out of a budget of £240 :j

i think i've probably cheated a bit because i started off with 2 full freezers, but as they're still about half full cos i kept topping them up, that makes up for it!!

i've just made a humongous pan of veg soup. it only cost me about £2.40 to make and i got 9 portions out of it, so i'm feeling really chuffed with that!! :D

well done to everybody in this month's challenge, and thanx for keeping us all in order Mrs Mc....

please can you put me down again for £60 a week for May when its up and running?

and thanks to everyone for all your help and inspiration this month :T
