I ended up spending £148.72 in the end, went over budget but stocked up on a few things.
My budget for May will again be £120, being back at work will make it much easier!

Hello, I'm new here - can I join in for the May challenge? I must spend about £250 a month on food at the mo and there's only two of us! Reading this thread has inspired me! I've got two freezers full of stuff (granted it is mostly veg and minced lamb - I ordered two bags of beef mince and two bags of lamb mince from tesco and only realised they'd given me all lamb after the man had gone!) and every weekend we eat at my boyfriends parents and I get a virtually whole cooked chicken to bring home. So I should be able to spend very little in May theoretically. (any ideas for using cooked chicken and minced lamb would be gratefully recieved!)
I won't set myself a target for the first month as I have no idea what would be realistic so I'll just spend as little as possible and that'll give me a better idea for June.
Looking forward to the challenge!0 -
£22.54 for me this week. I have to say I'm not doing as well this month as I wanted to. I don't know if it's the prices going up, or just me deciding that I can have a few treats as I'm not spending all my money on groceries.
One more week in April for me, then I will be buckling down in May and just buying what I need, not what I think may come in handy!0 -

Hi guys
I'd like to join for the May challenge please. I have a £40pw budget (I do my shop weekly) but with the price rises etc I'm not sure I can manage it ok, I got a shock the other day when my bill came to £41.66 for the same stuff I was paying £35-ish for, so it's a new challenge for me and I would infact like to get it under that amount....there's only me and the 2 kids so it easily do-able, isn't it?! LOL
I do my shop on a Thursday which is good this week cause that's the 1st May so I'll start then. I'm aiming for £35 pw. :cool:0 -
Well I've spent £18.13 on some essentials, including 4p for 2 courgettes (bargain though not anywhere near the 30 p chicken- Wow!).
Great idea about sharing whoopsies by the way...
Will update my sig.
Welcome embb-and good luck!!

Hiya superspam,
softstuff posted a lovely sounding turkish recipe idea, on another thread, click here
hope that helps with your lamb mince challenge!;)
My sig is looking really worrying now, about £3 a week til the end of June, but I've made enough evening meals apart from 6 nights, and I've got the ingredients for the sarnies to hopefully last that long too, so I think it'll be ok!;)
kidney bean pate, green olive tapenade and houmous sandwiches (seperately!) on HM bread, 4 loaves worth is today's batch-making challenge...
Recipes for those fillings are also found here in case you're interested.
Love to you all, and keep up the hard work,
Weezl x

£207.00 spent this month £7.00 over budget. However, in view of the price rises of late I'm not too worried.
Please count me in next month for £200 again. Month starting 27/04/08 and finishing 31/05/08-that's a long month!!!!
Thanks.
Well done everyone, good luck for next monthGE 36 *MFD may 2043

Thanks for the tips weezl74 and savingfortravel - I'll try them both! The main problem with the excess lamb mince is I can't eat lamb - it give me tummy ache for some reason - so my poor BF is going to be eating various lamb based dishes for about two months! The more different recipes I can use, the less boring it will be for him!0

Ooo I just looked up the lahmucan recipe - it only uses a bit of lamb and sounds yummy so I might try eating it and see how I get on. Thanks, that'll make a good lunch box filler for the BF too!0
