April 2008 Grocery Challenge

Well the good news is that this week, as far as I can tell, the only things I need to buy are milk (2pts organic semi-skimmed, 98p) and probably some fresh fruit come the weekend (currently still got about 12 bananas and 12 apples from last week).
The bad news is:
(a) I am 2 weeks into a 5 week month and have already spent 2.5 weeks' worth of my budget. Not really a problem in itself, as there is so little I need to buy this week.
(b) Lidl have a special this week on Asian food ingredients. Among the many items of processed rubbish are coconut milk at 49p a can, Thai green or red curry paste 59p a jar, and dried mixed Asian mushrooms 69p a bag. This is all stuff I use, and I think it might be worth my while to buy up as much as I have space for (especially the coconut milk and curry paste). This might involve blowing the budget big-time for the rest of the monthOperation Get in Shape

Purplevamp - I agree with faye1978, put the water in the fridge....having watched a programme some time ago with richard hammond about water and if it's good for you, bottled v tap, and it was recommended by several water companies just to put the water in the fridge for 2 hours and the after-taste would disappear.
Did you also know that many bottled waters are just bottled tap water? It's all in the name....if they have spring in them or volcanic, then they are NOT tap water, but a lot of the others are.
Search the net, you may be about to find it and watch it online, it was really interesting.0 -

so im stumped on that one....
That's really strange because ¾ my cup is 175/180ml so I thought it was the same size as yours...?
I've completed my online shop for this week and it should come to about £80 plus I've used a £7 off code :T that I found on here. The delivery is coming tomorrow night so I'll update my sig then with the actual total.
I'm a bit disappointedbecause I'm probably gonna be over budget this month now. I've only got £60 per week left (including this week) but I blame that on being under budget for the last couple of months which meant my freezer was completely empty at the beginning of April. I think I might end up totalling £385
instead of £350 but that's still not bad for me cos it's a 5 week month which used to be over £500:eek: .
Hope everyone else is doing ok

had to go into town this morning to pick up my new specs :cool2: and bought 5 bacon joints in B&M for £9.95. i know thats planning ahead a bit, cos it's gonna make enough for sarnies and salads for about the next 2 or 3 months, but i wanted to get them while they were in stock
also popped into Wilkinsons to buy some of their cheapy little food bags (10p for 50!!) to put the ham in once its cooked and sliced, as well as some doggy treats and sponge scourers.
i've still got enough in the freezer to live on this week, so technically i should only need milk & veg, but whenever i say that, there's always something else i need
just off to update my siggy, hope everyones having a good day xx0 -

It has been bugging me all day... heck knows why mine are different.. surely though -if im using the cup method and you made them using your cups ...mine would come out different to yours-this will drive me loopy until i figure out what is wrong
Anyway....
hubby phoned to say that he had been collared for duty -so won't be home until 10 am in the morning... so i have used my time and turned the leeks and some potatoes and made that batch of leek n potato soup-very tasty it is too.... enough for 3 flask for hubbie lunch -not full flasks mind... he can't eat THAT much it came to approx €1.10 about 85p for the whole batch :j
And i now have the creamy broccoli and cheese one under way-smells lovely.
Hubby will get tomorrow off in lieu of todays duty so we will be of round the golf course - which means i may have to pop into the NAFFi -just in case there are any bargains to be had..and from a different budget i need to pick up some more veggie growing bits...
Right off to stew that rhubarb in a moment.. going to mix it with 1/2 a jar of apfelmus and 1/2 jar of cherries i have to eat with yoghurt or on my soaked porridge oats nomnomnom-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -

Anyway, after last month's fiasco with my grocery challengei'm pleasantly surprised to find i'm doing well this month. Although i usually do my challenge for 4 weeks at time, i'm going to stretch the budget to 5 weeks this time. I know lots of people are doing 5 weeks this month anyway but i've always wanted to stay 'safe' with my 4 week months lol.
NSD today and hopefully for the rest of the week until Friday but we'll see. I have to go into town tomorrow to get some birthday presents so i might nip into Aldi whilst i'm there
Take care all

2 miles to walk to Aldi to get the 6 49p veg, worth it I suppose:rotfl: :rotfl: exercise into the bargain can't be bad for the waist line:D just baking the oat biscuits as we speak, spent a bit too much in Sainsburys though, I guess one thing counter acts the other:rolleyes:0

Flippin' heck  so much for my good intentions this week!!!
i've just been reading the thread about all the price rises at the mo.....bread flour going up nearly 50%, as well as pasta and rice. think i'll have to toddle off to tesco in the morning to stock up cos i go through a bag of flour nearly every week and we eat loads of pasta cos i've always thought of it as a "cheap" meal
would've gone this aft, but the heavens have just opened and i'm not getting soaked for anybody. the dogs won't even be getting their walk, its that horrible out there!! :eek:0 -
Managed to go for a fortnight without buying anything then blew £94 on food yesterday:eek: . The worst thing is that I don't really seem to have bought that much. Well that just leaves me £6 for the rest of the month.January spend = £100
