) so we got a Brita filter kettle, again never changed the filters. Then it leaked so got another one, that one leaked and got a Tefal kettle. I don't mind tap water if it's mixed with something or boiled (as long as the water hasn't been sitting in the kettle for ages). I may look into buying the filters again for drinking water, thank you for giving me a virtual kick up the bum :rotfl: . I know you can now recycle the old filters in Argos so I that's a good incentive. Hubby had some tap water when he woke up during the night which had been in his glass for 2 nights... made him nearly gag!!
Why not boil a whole kettle of water then put the water in te fridge (after it's cooled a little) then you can drink it from there?0 -

Morning everyone
AngelNikki ... have checked -and the cup in my set holds 120g of flourso im stumped on that one....
well i nipped out to look in the garden centre..needed some seeds to have a go growing nobbie greens(brussels)... and as its next door to Aldi it would have been rude not to pop inglad i did as i got:-
1 kilo rhubarb @ 50c
1 Kilo carrots @ 55c
1 Kilo courgettes @ 55c
1 big aubergine @ 49c
1 pot growing chives for garden @55c
1 pot growing tattagon " " @ 55c
and then whoopsed i got:-
3 X 500g broccoli @ 30c -and it looked better than the "fresh"
2 X 1kilo Leeks @ 50c
so spent €5.09 :T ...
Going to use- 1 of the leeks to turn the leftover lamb into those 2 pies with carrots and potatoes and a pastry top
- 1 broccoli and a leek to make broccoli cheese to go with jacket potato
- the rest of the leek to make a big pan of creamy leek n potato soup
- the other 2 broccoli to make cream of broccoli soup
- the aubergine to make a mousakka with grated potato and feta -a recipe off my mum
well the basic idea is and i will tweek to suit:p
- have quite a few eggs so think im going to make a courgette quiche -another of my mums recipes
im going to end up with a whole extra packing case full of bakeware when we eventually have to move back to the Uk..but its much cheaper here and there is so much more variety :j
Weezle74... thanks for that idea... I don't think we are planning on visiting the UK until possibly winter time..nothing to do with me not wanting to leave my veggies over summer -honest
.
Hubby has so much of his wage allocated back to his UK account to cover the mortgage back home etc... so we don't usually have to change any.. but i will tell him when he gets home- just in case ...thankyou
right i had better go and get something done..have a great day everyone:D-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -

Can definatly taste the difference between HM and shop bought.

Just an update on the spends....
For the first time in ages I managed to get quite a bit of reduced stuff at Tescos on Friday evening - some of which I didn't need so a bit of a false economy (shortbread choc chunk cookies for example!) - but a total spend of £18.
Managed to forget squash so popped to the corner shop yesterday for some and got 2 bottles for £1.20 - should last a week or two?
Total weekend spend is £19.20.
I'm in and out of the country with work for the next two weeks so I'm hoping what I have in will last me until the weekend of the 26th April and then its only a week to go!:j
Off to update my sig but I think there's about £35 left to the end of the month.0 -

When I do "real" mash I normally get the kids to help me peel the spuds and cook the whle bag!(assuming its about 2 kilos)
Then I mash it with milk and butter, put the unwanted portions into containers, and when cold, I freeze them. I buy the baco containers-not the cheapest but they are he best-Ive tried a few but these are pliable so don't crack. You can then rehat the mash in the micro-about 3 or 4 minutes per portion(think aunt bessies).
Regarding thickening casserolles I often use plain flour instead of cornflour. I always mix it to a creamy texture in a cup or jug then stir i in. I dont find any real difference. Ive done the same with sr flour and brown flour-they all work!
Ive put the mash into freezer bags before now . I hate cooking mash so when I do it i cook loads , it defrosts really well and you would never know it had been frozen0 -
Happy Monday everyone!
Just a quick update, spend in MrT last Thursday was £19.43 including £5.86 for cat food. Had thought it would be less as there really wasn't that much on my list
Off to update siggy ...Life isn't about how to survive the storm, but how to dance in the rain ...0
