Windows wont load and pc closes down after taking it to shop

  • It's difficult to know exactly what's going on without seeing the PC. It could be a number of things potentially at fault, the only option is to try to eliminate every possible thing one by one.

Heres the first thing I recommend: since it sounds like a hardware fault test it first without booting windows (we'll test that further on) by doing this:

reboot the machine. At the same time (and before windows boots) enter the BIOS settings by holding down the "delete" key. A list of BIOS options should pop up.

Don't touch any of the settings. Just leave the PC for a time, for 15 minutes at least. Does it still reboot automatically? If so, it's a hardware fault. If not, the problem lies elsewhere; possibly with Windows.

  • Whatever you do don't take it back to that shop! Take it someone who actually knows what they're doing.

Thanks alot. Its been on over 15 minutes on the BIOS page and it has not closed down itself automatically. What should i do about closing it down? Or should i do anything else? By the way there is no mouse arrow on there, is that normal? I presume so.
    Thanx

  • Interesting! Don't worry about the mouse thats normal. Leave it on for as long as you can and see what happens. If you want to close it down just press the power on/off button on the PC or press ctrl+alt+delete to reboot is probably the easiest way to exit the BIOS. :)

In the mean time check the temperature settings. Take a look at this page:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:AwardBIOS_CMOS_Setup_Utility.png

There should be a screen something like this. Select the "PC Health Status" option or whatever yours says and on the menu that appears there should be a set of statistics for CPU temperature, CPU fan speed, System temperature etc. Post what they say here.

I wasnt able to see the message in time so the only thing i thought which was ESC button. It just closed and when i pressed the PC button it would not start again, as usual. Until i had switched it off at the mains. I will put it back on again in the BIOS to check the above. Thanks alot.
    Thanx

Done a bit more reading on the subject, if you have to switch it off at the mains to get it to power on it looks like a heat issue. The new fan and heatsink probably arent installed correctly which is causing the cpu to overheat then shutdown. Will know more once the temperatures from your BIOS are posted.

PS before you did anything with the graphics card fan did it exhibit this problem of shutting down after a short while?
