When I went to bring in my washing from the line this afternoon two wild mallards wandered up my driveway and ate the birdseed I had thrown down. The sun was shining and it was just such a lovely moment, warm sweet smelling bed linen in my arms and two beautiful wild birds at my feet. Didn't get many moments like that when I was working every moment God made.
Away with the fairies.... Back soon

I was chatting at work recently about what I'd been up to at the weekend & one of the girls said 'you're a proper mummy. If I didn't love my mum so I work full time so don't have as much time as I'd like to do other things like grow veg, keep chooks, shop around for the best grocery prices or keep the house as clean & tidy as I aspire to but those are things on the list for when I retire. In 6 years & 3 months - not that I'm counting.:D

Dobie ..just to say you and I will be retiring at the same time- I bet it will come very quickly!

I love the simple things in life too, trouble is no one else I know seems to feel the same.I love to see my washing blowing in the breeze and bake my own goodies.Having a clean comfortable home with plenty of food tucked away.No amount of money can give you the satisfaction of seeing someone you love tuck in to a meal and enjoy food you've cooked from scratch.I know my family and friends think me a bit eccentric but the simpler the better for me.

Mrs T - thank goodness we can come on here and find like-minded people!! People don't know what they're missing :j

Fruits of this morning's labours (it's amazing what I can get done without blooming kids around!):

    4 wholemeal loaves
    15 soft white rolls
    4 dozen flapjacks
    30 banana muffin squares
    4-5 pints chicken stock
1 litre of yogurt yogging away
3 loads of washing on the line

Not so much 'satisfaction' as blatant smugness:D

Hadn't seen this before but I have a few of my own...

    - OH going into raptures on Saturday cos I'd made yorkshire puddings from scratch (even though they weren't very good!)
    - The look on friends' faces when I give them hand stitched samplers to celebrate weddings, birth of babies etc
    - Climbing into a freshly made bed with ironed sheets
    - Going for a walk whilst blackberrying - and enjoying cooking up the fruit afterwards
    - Continuing to use the china that my grandparents got for their wedding (not every day as it's so precious to me, but for special occasions)
    - Homemade soup on a cold winter day - nothing can beat it!

Coming in from work and one of the cats being so happy to see me jumping on the car bonnet as I go down the drive.

This made me laugh out loud at work!! Hope you didn't dent the bonnet!

All your lists have put a smile on my face, especially the 'children asking for seconds' that means I've made something they enjoy which is a great feeling.

My son telling someone 'we don't eat junk like that' :o oops maybe made that Mam feel a bit bad. My son saying 'My Mam made them' or when DPs friends come over, eat a HM cookie and asked where they can 'buy some' because they were so nice. :D << my grin when I tell them. My Mam thoroughly enjoying home cooked meals when she comes over, because she lives on ready meals and what others cook at work, never a scrap on her plate.

:rotfl: @ the cat, my friend's cat used to follow her down the street, knew when she was due in, the amount of times I seen her yelling at her to move because she'd go in front of the car and nearly get ran over.

Never worrying about running out of bread because I can make some more......used to run out all the time. Knowing we always have 'something' in for dinner as I can make something from most things I 'find' now.

No washing on the line here as keeps raining, but have the airers out in the conservatory drying clothes with the sunshine in between the showers. I do love the smell of line dried sheets.

Not having to work at the moment because of the savings I have made being at home, taking on OS ideas and tips, reducing our outgoings hugely so I can be the first person my boys see when they wake up and the last person they see when they go to bed, in a way I'd love to return to work but I also love being there for them. Having time to play in the garden with them, make things with them, read with them, laugh with them and cry with them when they are sad. If I haddn't done this I'd have been working when DP doesn't, we'd be like passing ships and battling when needed with childcare. Watching the debts reduce at the same time (mine gone just working on DPs now) thanks to the savings.
One day I might be more organised...........

I love my ceiling airer. Have had it since about November I think. I believe I have only used the tumble dryer twice since! I don't have an outside line at the moment, shame, as we're getting some nice days.

I also get enormous satisfaction from sewing. I made a patchwork wallhanging & matching cushions for our bedroom when we decorated last year. This year, so far, I've made blinds for the bathroom & landing windows, recovered the dining chair seats & made linen napkins to match. (How posh am I?)

I was chatting at work recently about what I'd been up to at the weekend & one of the girls said 'you're a proper mummy. If I didn't love my mum so much I'd want you as my mum'. It was one of the best compliments I've ever had.

I work full time so don't have as much time as I'd like to do other things like grow veg, keep chooks, shop around for the best grocery prices or keep the house as clean & tidy as I aspire to but those are things on the list for when I retire. In 6 years & 3 months - not that I'm counting.:D

Your post made me well up! ATM I'm sitting on sofa with DS snuggled under a blanket because it's cold. They wanted to do some painting and I said no then thought why not? So set them up on kitchen floor and could hear them chattering away to each other. The floor will be filthy but it's tiled so will clean up.
I love that DH is putting in so much effort to do the house, replastering and refitting despite us having limited time.
I love that DH cares enough to mock my cooking and yet still polishes it all off!
Love love love line dried washing- doesn't happen often enough though- need the drier to keep the house warmer at night.
Absolutely love sitting in front of the fire when it's lit. Chuffed that when I have a fireplace working I throw away so much less rubbish.
Love when I check on DS at night that he wants me to share his bed cause it shows he loves me!
