A couple of years ago I wouldnt have dreamed that I would be so happy 'pottering' in my kitchen, still havnt caught up with you lot with the baking and such but plan to.
I used to go in the kitchen, prepare a meal as quickly as possible then get out of there, now the kitchen is my favourite place.
In the summer I too love sitting in my garden with a cup of coffee watching the clean washing on the line.
Most of my real world friends would think Im mad if I told them this!0 -

I love all the things that have been mentioned time again - baking when I get the chance, and making jam in copious amounts, the smell of line-dried laundry etc.
But I have to admit one of the most satisfying OS things I do is scrubbing the kitchen floor - not a fancy wipe-covered telescopic mop or bottle of sprayable chemicals in sight - just a bucket of warm soapy water, a hard brush and a kneeling pad - very therapeuticDFW Nerd no. 884 - Proud to [strike]be dealing with[/strike] have dealt with my debts0 -
I too have never had a tumble dryer and love seeing my washing on the line and ironing same day if I can.
Coming in from work and one of the cats being so happy to see me jumping on the car bonnet as I go down the drive.
My dbf who visits at the weekend clearing his plate saying that is so much better than restaurant meals.
In the summer sitting outside in the dusk and counting my blessings that I have a garden.
Being so much more excited in the Lakeland shop than I am now in the clothes shops.
I would love to be at home more.0 -
- finishing knitting a dishcloth in front of the real 1920s fire, cat sprawled by the fire, dog resting on my feet.
- Radio 4 6:30 p.m. programmes.
- Smelling the line dried washing when I bring it in.
- Looking round the kitchen at the end of baking & seeing the bread rolls, flapjack, cookies, cake, all cooling on racks.
- Fresh ground coffee
- Hosting my visiting family & friends with leaf tea in the Brown Betty pot, with hand knitted cosy, and serving H.M. scones.
- scooping up a bargain trolleyful after choosing the right time to supermarket shop.
- Home made soups, and seeing O.H.'s expression as he savours them with H.M. rolls.
- Bringing in any home grown fruit or veg.
- Freezer batches completed, dated & ready to go.
- bunches of flowers in ye olde vases, (usually a gift, or radiating a satisfying glow of a bargain well found)
- Chats with friends, and my sister.
I don't mind ironing while someone on radio 4 is reading me a story or the afternoon play. I feel no shame in my domestic bliss.0 -
What radio station do you listen to, it sounds right up my street?0

Yes, things that make me happy are...
my washing blowing on the washing line...
cooking from scratch...
using everything in my freezer...
making home made bread
making homemade cakes and biscuits..
the kids telling their friends that their mum is a great cook...
the cuddles my DD's give me...
reading an old Enid Blyton story to my DD's..
cleaning without chemicals..
having a family dinner around a table most nights...
seeing my homemade quilt covers on my DD's beds...
having a husband who says i'm wonderful...
playing o/s games with my DD's eg making 'peg dolls'...
seeing things growing in my allotment...
seeing my DD's get dirty playing in the mud at my allotment...
the seeds growing on my window sill and in my coldframe outside...
a sunny day...
the excitement of xmas...
having my finances under control...
my DD1 playing the piano...
my DD's laughing....
people telling me my DD's are good girls...
watching the birds feeding from my bird feeders....
a bath then into bed with clean sheets...
a clean house
(My DH says i should have been a housewife in the 1950's)
Oh I forgot clean sheets, THE ULTIMATE LUXURY.0 -
All my ironing is done, for once. I have my new lady friend and the need to look my best on our dates, plus the new Formula 1 season on TV, during which I actually do the ironing, to thank for this. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0
