  • www.itsaspringthing.co.uk has a recipe section under Willows Kitchen - which has some tried and tasted recipes that our Springer highly recommends.

His particular favourite is liver bread which stinks the house out but tastes lush (apparently!).

Good luck with the fundraising :D

  • I'm wondering if any of you Dog owners know of any offers on food at the moment. I have two dogs, a GSD and a Cavalier.

Both of my dogs are used to Royal Canin.. due to alot of debt at the moment I cannot afford to buy this full price so hold out for bogof or half price offers.. I ran out about 3months ago and still haven't found any great offers!

I bought them Eukanuba whilst that was on 1/2 price - but soon I will be scraping the bottom again and I can't seem to find any decent foods half price/bogof :( I don't have the heart to feed them some rubbish so if anyone knows of a site or shop with offers please let me know.

    Thanks

Have a look at this thread. It has some good ideas for alternative foods that you might find useful.

As far as I can remember, Autarky is as cheap as it is because it's aimed at working dogs rather than pet dogs, and so is exempt from tax. I'm not sure if this is still the case - the protein level used to be a little higher than most other pet foods, but nothing to worry about if your dog gets plenty of exercise. It isn't the best of foods, but having said that there isn't as much of a difference between JWB and Autarky as they used to be as the quality of JWB has deteriorated a little over the past couple of years. It's still a good food by UK standards, but for the price you could probably find something much better. So if you're struggling for cash, do consider Autarky.

Regarding the Wagg sensitive... I wouldn't recommend it. Looking at the ingredients, it's only 4% meat meal. JWB used to be about 22% but, given that rice is now higher in the ingredients list than meat meal, this has probably reduced a little. Ingredients are listed in order of weight, and if rice is the second ingredient on the Wagg list and only makes up 4% of the food, the bulk of it is going to be Maize. So although you're paying only £1 per kilogram for it, you're going to have to feed much more than, for example, JWB because it is mainly grain and so much less of it will be digested by the dog. It'll work out as false economy, particularly for a dog with a sensitive digestive system.

I would recommend finding a horse feed supplier, normally on a farm, we have a local one and dog food, treats, beds and coats are much cheaper. You can often buy the same food for less and they have other foods that the superstores and shops don't stock. Also mine will order in for me as well.
