You need to ask what the present owner is feeding them - and by rights they should give you a weeks supply to give you time to get replacement. Don't just get `anything' - they can die VERY quickly if get dehydrated which is what happens if they get `the trots' and 2 puppies with THAT is not fun at all.

Good luck - they look really sweet.

Thanks for your input - of course I will continue with ther current food and if this is the best will stick with it. It there's better stuff available will gradually move them across.
Wouldn't dream of giving them 'anything' just asking for people to share their experiences of different foods.

    They ARE really sweet! ;)

Aww how cute are they? :)

To be honest I'd like to know what other people prefer with regards to puppy food. I have tried Butchers Choice (just because its available everywhere! and he was weaned on it) but I would like to try something a bit more healthier. My little pup doesnt like dry food (unfortunately!) so I'm also after any recommendations as I dont want to be changing his food too often.

    Aaaw, puppies!

I'm not sure about best food for puppies - though I've been told to avoid Bakers in all its various forms because of the high levels of sugar in it.

For an adult food (when they're older, obviously) I'm a fan of Burns - it's low-end protein (less hyper dogs) and because the dog physically 'wastes' less of it there's less to clean up on walks! Our two do really well of it, stable weights, happy dogs, and just the right amount of energy!

Initially you need to feed them whatever they were weaned on to. Don't change their food suddenly (even if they are being fed cr*p when you first get them), their tummies are so delicate at that age, it needs to be done gradually.

Good quality food (in no particular order):
    Burns
    James Wellbeloved
    Natures Diet
    Natures Menu
    Autarky

Junk to be avoided at all costs:
    Bakers
    Pedigree Chum
anything will very low meat content and/or lots of bright colours.

If you are on a very tight budget Chappie is probably the best cheap food, it stinks, but it's a good food.
When I had my loft converted back into a loft, the neighbours came around and scoffed, and called me retro.

I fed my pup James Well Beloved (he didn't like it), then Pets at Home puppy (made by Hills which he loved). Recently he switched to adult food, tried Beta (was at wholesalers) but he just looked scrawny on it then back to Pets at Home adult.

I chose dry food as it's easier for me to store, I feel it is better for him and he is a grazer, he likes to have food out all day and will just snatch a few biscuits when he feels like it, so did not like the idea of wet food sitting all day.

He is a fussy dog, he won't take many treats (though will steal bacon if teh pack is open out the fridge).

Avoid the ones you see on TV, they are marketed at humans and usually contaion lots of colours, additives and high levels of salt, which is why 'Most dogs would choose this brand'. It's like offering kids a healthy meal or a bowl of sweets.

That's fab as we live near to where they make it (Burns that is!). It does seem to be one of the healthiest and they are not into animal testing which is a major plus as far as I'm concerned.

We'll be seeing the pups on Saturday so will find out what they are currently on and get a couple of weeks worth in ready.

I fed my GSD Eukanuba all his life and his teeth remained in great condition so I would recommend a dry food if they will eat it.

Thanks but if you read this Click you may not recommend it again! We had a bad experience with the cats and Iams and so looked into the company a bit further

I too use Eukanuba and it is by far the best food I've given to my dog - he has the food for sensitive skin - I chose not to be influenced by animal rights campaigners

Whatever you choose to feed yours, don't give them any rubbish from a tin, dogs get all the nutrition they need from a good quality complete dry food

Sorry but I think if you care about animals you should care what you put in to them - if that has caused unnecessary misery and suffering to other animals it's DEFINTELY not for me.
