I feed my two Burns because it's a natural holistic food and it gives my girls lovely glossy coats. They are really healthy and happy on it and I've had no regrets about spending a little extra on their food.
Like with kids, it's important what you feed them because it'll affect what you get back, not just in terms of their health but also their mood.0 -

It's a raw diet and is good for their health, temperament, teeth, coat and pretty much everything else. Butchers have to pay to get rid of the leftovers so they'll either give it away or sell it very cheap. The person i got Wils off fed their dogs on chicken carcasses which cost them something like £5 for 50.
dog poo is almost a thing of the past. They take all the nutrients out of the food like they're supposed to and poo out the rest. It's also nice and crumbly rather than wet and stinky so you can sweep it up rather than pick it up
Gypsy, do you not consider the dangers in this sort of diet?0 -
I feed my foster dogs on pedigree chum foil pouches and their mixer for my foster dogs, but if i had my own dog i'd feed him/her on natures menu or JW/RC depends really on what the dog will like, so getting their free sample packs are ideal.0

I'm another BARF feeder.
Would be interested to hear on what the "dangers" are, though.Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -
When I am away shopping and end up in Makro I get the biggest bags of dried food I can get (either complete or just biscuits) that is on offer and works out the best deal - tried loads and they love them all.
For the wet part they get tins of Pal or Morrisons or Tesco own make, and they also love the chubbs of meat from Lidl which are 39p each (one between the two).
For a special treat they get a tin of meatballs and hotdogs - Arnie used to have a very sensitive stomach and for a long time we found that this was the only thing that didn't give him the runs.
Also, when I am cooking rice/pasta/potatos I do a little extra and mix it in with their meat instead of biscuits.
Arnies dad quite happily munches into a curry from the chinese and a bottle of beer if he gets given half a chance!!!"Life may not always be the party you wish for, but whilst here you may aswell dance"!!!

My Avatar? Arnie and Casey, proud parents to Storm and Tsu born 19/01/2009!!! - both now in new homes and called Murron and Burger!0 -
I feed my dog Nutro Choice. I'd love to feed him BARF, but a) we don't have the freezer space, or the space for another freezer and b)he guards raw meaty bones, so it's a bit of a risk.
Debt_free_chick, a lot of people feel that feeding bones (even raw ones) is dangerous.
Kimberley - I'm interested to know why you feed foster dogs PC, but would feed your own JWB or RC?0 -

Feeding cooked bones is definitely dangerous. Cooked bones splinter into shard like fragments, which can pierce the instestines, bowels or any other internal organ.
Raw bones go mushy when chewed and don't splinter.
My 3 yo Springer was weaned by the breeder on raw chicken wings from 6 or 7 weeks old
And his diet is based around raw chicken carcasses.Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -
Just my 2 penneth...
Mine eat Iams mixed with a little Butchers Tripe - I have 5 dachshunds and it's the only thing they all like.
However, I can't see why the BARF diet would be unsafe? Long before people fed dogs, there were wolves - and they didn't hunt tins of pedigree chum!0
